  • Ice Lance against frozen targets now deals 200% more damage (was 300%).
  • Frost Blast is a new level 24 spell: a 1.5 s cast that slows by 40% and benefits from your Frostbolt talents.
  • Cone of Cold slows its 1st 4 targets by an extra 10% for 3 seconds longer, and Winter’s Chill is redesigned around Cone of Cold and no longer adds crit chance.

The 1st big stage for Mage duels is the Forever Open on 17 and 18 October: a 1v1 tournament on the beta PvP ruleset with level 30 Horde characters, so Orc, Troll and Undead Mages, a 100,000-dollar prize pool and a prize for the best player of each class.

Level 30 PvP tier list from the beta, October 2026: the Mage class is B tier, with 48.5% of 615 duels won in the Forever Open qualifiers. Forever launches on 4 November. All 9 classes: level 30 PvP tier list.

Frost here is roots, nova identity and sheep uptime. Fire glass is a meme for now. Provisional, since talents may still change during the beta. Blizzard's 8 October build notes say critical strikes in PvP no longer have reduced efficacy.

Level 10 to 30. Stay Frost. Polymorph is the kickoff. Ice Barrier identity if it survives the rewrite.

Level 40 to 60. Golds in Frost. Counterspell is the caster duel tool. Do not dump points into Fire crit for ranks. Recheck after each beta build.

Gnome Eureka is the burst racial, now an 8 s buff with no charges. Human Will to Survive clears stuns so you can Blink out.

Stamina cloth plus rank rewards. Rank 10 week 7, Rank 13 week 9.

How rank gear works (Blizzard, 7 October 2026). Honor buys a blue and an epic PvP set, and each epic upgrade needs an Emboldened Seal with a rank requirement. Rank Points come from battlegrounds and PvP quests with a weekly cap: a tabard at Rank 1, a mount at Rank 11 and epic weapons at Rank 14. Since the 1 October beta build Honor prices are about 50% higher and the Honor cap is 25,000.

Week 1. Honor greens with spell damage. Get week-1 gear done.

Weeks 2–3. Dungeon stamina pieces between BG sessions. Get the dungeon set done.

Rank weeks. Push Rank 10 then 13. Darkspear Islands, the new 15v15 battleground for levels 30 to 60, adds 2 reputations with PvP gear and an Exalted tabard. Get Rank 14 done.

From 9 December. Mix rank rewards with Barrow Deeps / Hyjal Summit caster drops.

Open a tier to land on Mage Frost with the PvP ruleset preselected.

Battleground addons for Mage.

• LoseControl: DR on sheep and nova.
• BattlegroundTargets: incoming healers.
• Gladius analogs: arena frames; Forever ports provisional.
• OmniCC: Blink and Counterspell timers.
• Questie: unlock brackets on the way to 60.

Threat meters belong on the raid sibling.
