What “realmless” actually means
World of Warcraft: Forever does not publish a named realm list. You pick a ruleset, not a server name. Official wording: it is not one giant realm for everyone. Each ruleset is described as a large ecosystem. That is the whole published model. There is no Faerlina, no Grobbulus, no published count of shards sitting under the label.

The same recap (Blizzard’s Deep Dive article) is the source for grouping: no cross-ruleset grouping. Dungeons and raids are same-ruleset only. Alliance and Horde stay separate — no Horde/Alliance groups. If a friend is on PvP and you are on Normal, you do not form a party. If a friend is Horde and you are Alliance on the same ruleset, you still do not form a party. Those two walls are independent.
Forever launches 4 November 2026 at 15:00 PST globally and is included in a normal WoW Subscription (pre-purchase article and the Battle.net shop). Hub: /wow-forever. How this sits next to Classic realm culture: Forever vs Classic. Calendar: release date. Weekend recap is the BlizzCon 2026 guide.
Ask which ruleset →Normal, PvP, or Roleplaying at launch. A Pro has to be on the same ruleset and faction. We do not sell named-realm parking.
The four rulesets
Official Deep Dive list (Blizzard’s Deep Dive article):
| Ruleset | When | What the article says | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal | Launch | Cooperation. World PvP needs mutual consent. | |
| PvP | Launch | Contested-territory world PvP. Faction-balance systems similar to Season of Discovery. | |
| Roleplaying | Launch | Named as its own ruleset. No extra RP rulebook in the article. | |
| Hardcore | After launch | A fully enclosed ecosystem. Every decision matters and death carries lasting consequences. Not a launch product. |

On 13 September 2026 at 17:19 UTC, @Warcraft posted a graphic: pick game rules, then start. The labels on that post are PvP, Normal, RP, and Hardcore. The caption says you share a world with people who play the same way, and that Hardcore is in the set. Blizzard’s Deep Dive still places Hardcore after launch. Treat the graphic as the four playstyles, and the Deep Dive as the launch gate.
Players on the official forums already asked for an RP-PvP box (RP-PVP is a must). Blizzard has not published a fourth launch box. RP-PvP as its own ruleset is unpublished.
Names, language, factions
Character names are two-part — a first name and a last name — and they are unique per region. The official example is “Ana Forever.” That replaces the old one-word, per-realm uniqueness. Early Name Reservation (pack required) runs 27 October through 3 November 2026 PST, up to three characters, first-come (shop footnote and pre-purchase article). Packs are optional; a subscription still plays Forever. Reservation is a pack feature, not a ruleset feature.
Shop Available Regions on the US Battle.net product page: Americas & Oceania, Europe, Korea, Taiwan. China is unpublished. Per-region staggered launch clocks are unpublished; legal copy is 15:00 PST globally.
Language preference matching is official. Wowhead’s BlizzCon coverage also mentioned a faction preference that phases you; Blizzard’s article does not. Factions themselves stay separate on every ruleset. There is no published cross-faction grouping, and no published “War Mode” toggle. Wowhead’s BlizzCon coverage infers that retail War Mode is not the model, because you pick a ruleset instead of flipping a flag. That is labelled inference, not a quoted Blizzard sentence.
Alliance and
Horde identity still decides who you can group with. New launch combos (
Undead Paladin,
Dwarf Shaman, and four more) sit on those factions.
Hardcore isolation, and what can leave
Hardcore is the one ruleset the Deep Dive fences. It is fully enclosed. You cannot group with Normal, PvP, or Roleplaying. Collections and Legacy Points are account-wide across rulesets except Hardcore. Progress, Legacy, and collections can leave Hardcore. Nothing flows into Hardcore.
On death, official Deep Dive wording: that character can transfer to another ruleset, including PvP. The @Warcraft line — “Dead Hardcore characters can join a new one” — is the looser social version of the same day. Product pages should use the article, not the emoji tweet. Full Hardcore window, Sunday panel notes, and the unpublished rulebook live on the Hardcore guide. Wowhead also wrote that Hardcore will not be available on Forever’s launch.
Forever leveling →Full 1→60 from $259; shorter brackets cost less on the same slider. Checkout asks Normal / PvP / Roleplaying. Hardcore is a later ruleset, not this offer.
What Blizzard has not published
Blizzard has not published these details yet:
- Named realm list / realm count. The design is rulesets. No table of names, no published shard count.
- Whether the ruleset pick can be switched later on a living Normal / PvP / RP character. The official-forum thread asks; Blizzard has not answered in the published articles.
- Auction House scope — per ruleset, per region, or something else.
- Guild scope — per ruleset, per region, or cross-ruleset. Guild features in general are unpublished.
- Layering / sharding as named technology. Official copy avoids those words and says “large ecosystem.” A Sunday Hardcore panel (Wowhead’s BlizzCon coverage) said a world refresh warns you to reach a safe spot first. That is a Hardcore-panel line, not a published layering spec for Normal or PvP.
- Paid transfers, clones, paid name change, faction change. Unpublished except pack Early Name Reservation and the free Hardcore-death ruleset transfer.
- WoW Token in Forever. Unpublished.
A Forever-specific bot, multibox, or account-share rule was also not in this week’s posts. Community fear of bots and Auction House inflation is real (next section). It is not a published enforcement plan.
What players said on September 13
The loudest creator clip the same day was Asmongold, via @fwprism (2,991 likes, 264,610 views that day): he called realmless “the best announcement.” That is one streamer’s line, not a population poll.
Wowhead’s same-day thread on the announcement (no more realms in WoW Forever) split the other way. zomgz wrote that they did not think the developers had “learned just how much damage realmless/megaservers do” and that the design “will prevent servers from feeling unique.” DeltaLimaCharlie said Anniversary megaservers “completely destroyed the economy.” Mossysnail’s line was only about lag. Reddit threads exist — r/classicwow and r/MMORPG — with search snippets about dead realms versus running into the same people again. Reddit scores for those two threads are unpublished. Treat titles and snippets as heat, not as a vote.
The official @Warcraft realmless post itself had 6,623 likes and 423,811 views that day. The usable same-day argument is the Wowhead comment split plus the permanence thread.
What this changes for play — and for a Pro
You no longer pick a named home realm. You pick Normal, PvP, or Roleplaying at launch, and you play with whoever else picked that box in your region. Grouping density should sit inside that box, not on a 4,000-cap realm that can die in month four. That is the design claim. Beta (17 September–21 October 2026 PST official) is the first time anyone can see whether the large ecosystem actually holds a city at peak hours.

What the design ends as a service category: named-realm transfers and “we will park you on X.” LFCarry does not sell those. There is nothing to transfer onto. What still matters is a Pro who is on your ruleset and your faction — because those are the two walls the article actually printed.
Launch offers that already ask for a ruleset on the checkout: leveling from $259 (shorter brackets cost less on the same slider; ruleset picker is Normal / PvP / Roleplaying), dungeons from $9 per leveling run / $29 endgame, coaching at $29/hour. Gold after launch is from $19 per 100g (1,000g $150). Professions 1–300 from $89. First raids are 9 December 2026, not launch week:
Barrow Deeps from $149,
Hyjal Summit $249.
Hardcore 1–60 from $349 is a separate pre-order and is not fulfilled on 4 November. Custom order from $10.
