The Short Answer: October 27 – November 3, Any Pack, Three Characters
Early Name Reservation runs October 27 through November 3, 2026 (PST). That is the whole window — seven days, closing the day before launch. Blizzard’s pre-purchase page (September 12) ties it to “any upgrade purchase”, so the Skyborne Heroic Pack at $29.99 qualifies just as well as the $79.99 Collection.
Inside the window you can create and customize up to three characters. Names are first-come, first-served and Blizzard says outright that a name is not guaranteed. Nothing here is a lottery or a queue — whoever creates the character first owns the name.
Two things make Forever different from every Classic launch before it. Characters carry a two-part name — a first name and a last name, the Deep Dive example is “Ana Forever” — and the game is realmless, so a name is unique per region, not per server. Both change how you should think about your list, which is the second half of this page.
A base subscription does not unlock the window. Forever is included with any WoW Subscription or Game Time, but the reservation week, the Skyborne race and the invite codes all live in the packs. If you only sub, your first chance at a name is November 4 at 3:00 p.m. PST, with everyone else.
The Wider Timeline Around the Window
Name reservation sits between the end of beta and launch. Every row below is a Blizzard date from the pre-purchase page, the Battle.net shop or the What’s Next recap; one clock, PST.

| Date (PST) | What happens | Who it affects |
|---|---|---|
| Sep 17, 2026 | Beta begins | Epic Pack, Collection, CE code owners |
| Oct 20 | Invite-A-Friend Launch Codes start going out by email | Every pack owner (1 code Heroic, 3 Epic/Collection) |
| Oct 21 | Beta ends | Beta testers — progress does not carry over |
| Oct 27 | Early Name Reservation opens | Any upgrade pack |
| Nov 3 | Early Name Reservation closes | Any upgrade pack |
| Nov 4, 3:00 p.m. PST | Global launch | Everyone with a sub or Game Time |
| Nov 4–11 | Friend codes redeemable — invitees play without a sub | Code recipients |
| Dec 9 | First raids unlock | Everyone at 60 |
Two practical notes. The launch time is a single global moment; Blizzard has not published separate EU, Oceanic or Asian hours, so 3:00 p.m. PST is 23:00 UTC for everyone. And the seven-day gap between beta closing and reservation opening is deliberate room to wipe — do not expect a beta character or a beta name to survive into it. Full calendar on the release date page.
Which Pack You Need (and Which You Don’t)
Every upgrade pack carries Early Name Reservation. What separates them is beta, game time and codes — not naming. If names are the only reason you are buying, Heroic is the answer.
| Pack | USD | Name reservation | Characters | Beta (Sep 17) | Invite codes | Skyborne + Zephras Isle |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Subscription only | — | no | — | no | 0 | no |
| $29.99 | yes | up to 3 | no | 1 | yes | |
| Skyborne Epic Pack | $59.99 | yes | up to 3 | yes | 3 | yes |
| Warcraft Forever Collection | $79.99 | yes | up to 3 | yes | 3 | yes |
One correction worth making because it is circulating: Icy Veins’ roadmap table lists name reservation under “Skyborne Epic Pack or above”. Blizzard’s own page and shop say any upgrade, and Wowhead’s September 12 note calls it a Heroic-edition benefit. We go with Blizzard. Full pack breakdown, including the $150 physical Collector’s Edition, is on the editions page.
Pack benefits apply to the specific WoW account you buy them on — the shop is explicit. If you run two game accounts and want three names on each, that is two packs.
Pre-order 1–60 leveling — $259 →Lock the two-part name on October 27, send it to us, and the 1–60 leveling pre-order begins on that exact character the minute Forever goes live. Any class, any ruleset. Nothing starts before Blizzard’s clock.
Two-Part Names: How “Ana Forever” Works
At the September 13 Deep Dive, Blizzard showed character creation with two name fields — a first name and a last name — and the example “Ana Forever”. Wowhead’s write-up of the same build calls them a main name and a secondary name, both required on the creation screen shown.
The reason is realmless. On a Classic server, “Ana” only had to be unique on Firemaw. On Forever there is no Firemaw; the full name is unique per region (Americas, Europe and so on). Two fields multiply the namespace so millions of players can share one region without everyone ending up as “Anaa”, “Anaaa” and “Ánà”.
What that means in practice:
- The first name is not exclusive on its own. Blizzard has said the full name is what is unique, so “Ana Forever” and “Ana Stormwind” can both exist.
- Your last name is part of your identity in the world — it is how two players with the same first name are told apart in chat, groups and the Legacy screen.
- The name you lock in during the window is the full two-part name, on one region, on one ruleset choice made at creation.
Skyborne characters use the same two-field creation flow as every other race; the difference is that
Skyborne and its
Zephras Isle start are pack-gated, so a subscription-only account cannot roll one at all.
What Blizzard Has Not Announced (Yet)
Plenty of “rules” are being repeated online that do not appear in any Blizzard page, panel or shop footnote as of September 16. Treat these as open:
| Question | Status | What we do know |
|---|---|---|
| Are last names mandatory or optional? | Not announced | Both fields were shown filled at the Deep Dive; Wowhead read them as required. No written rule. |
| Character limits for each name field? | Not announced | Classic used 2–12 letters; Forever has published nothing. |
| Can a reserved name be changed? | Not announced | No paid rename SKU and no free-rename policy has been published for Forever. |
| Do reserved characters keep their ruleset? | Not announced | Switching a living character between rulesets is unstated; only dead Hardcore characters moving out is confirmed. |
| Is reservation open in every region on the same day? | Single PST window published | No per-region schedule exists; assume October 27 PST everywhere. |
When any of these changes, the What changed strip at the top of this page will say so with the date. We do not fill gaps with Classic-era assumptions.
Name Strategy on a Realmless Game — Our PRO Team’s Read
This section is our team’s read, not a Blizzard statement. Everything above is sourced; everything here is how we would actually spend the seven days.
1. Two fields means your “main” is rarely blocked. On Classic launches the single-word names went in minutes. With a mandatory second field the contested resource is the exact pair. Pick the first name you want and hold three last-name options — you will almost certainly land the first one.
2. Reserve early on October 27, not November 3. First-come is first-come. The window opens on a Tuesday; the people who care most will be there at the first minute PST. There is no advantage to waiting.
3. Use all three slots. Three characters is the cap. Our default split: main (the class you will level first — see the classes page), alt on the other faction so you have a foothold in both economies, and a Skyborne if you own a pack, because that race is pack-gated and its Zephras Isle start is content most players will not see on day one.
4. Decide the ruleset before you create. Realmless still asks you to choose Normal, PvP or Roleplaying at creation, and you only group with your own ruleset. Since switching a living character is not announced, treat the reservation-week choice as permanent. Hardcore is not selectable — it arrives after launch.
5. Keep the last name readable. On a region-wide game your full name is what people type to whisper, invite and report. A last name that survives being said out loud in Discord is worth more than a clever one.
If you are pre-ordering leveling with us, lock the name first and send it over — our 1–60 pre-order starts at 3:00 p.m. PST on November 4 on the exact character you reserved.
Creating a Skyborne During the Window
The
Skyborne race and the
Zephras Isle starting experience are the headline item in every pack — Heroic and above. The shop footnote is blunt: base subscribers get Forever, but the race and its starting questline need a pack.
Because the same pack unlocks name reservation, every account that can reserve a name can also create a Skyborne inside the window. It counts as one of your three characters. Skyborne is a neutral race — you choose faction — which makes it the natural pick for the “other faction” slot if your main is a classic race.
What you get on top of the race, per Blizzard’s pack lists: the Cerulean Prideclaw ground mount (riding skill still bought in-game), the Shen’dorei Skyseer’s Garb, the Veteran Adventurer’s Rucksack and the Shen’dorei Windwell toy — all on Heroic, more cosmetics and pets on Epic. Racials and the Zephras zone are on the Skyborne page and the racials page.
Before October 27: The Checklist
Seven things, in order, so the week is a formality.
- Own a pack on the right WoW account. Benefits are per account; gift purchases exclude the invite codes.
- Have an active sub or Game Time by November 4. Forever “requires World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time”. Epic and Collection add 30 days from launch day; Heroic does not.
- Write three full two-part names for each of your three slots — nine pairs total.
- Pick a ruleset per character (Normal, PvP, Roleplaying). Read the realmless page if you are torn.
- Pick faction and class. New combos like Undead Paladin and Dwarf Shaman are live at launch.
- Be online as early on October 27 (PST) as you can. Blizzard has not published an opening hour — only the day. First-come.
- Screenshot the confirmed characters. If a name dispute ever comes up, the creation screen with the date is your record.
Then wait for November 4, 3:00 p.m. PST. If you want the reserved character at 60 without spending launch week in Elwynn, that is what the leveling pre-order is for; anything odd — three characters, a specific ruleset, a name you want protected on an alt — goes through a custom order.
