The Short Answer: Sub Gets You In, Packs Get You Skyborne
You do not buy World of Warcraft: Forever. Blizzard’s pre-purchase page says it plainly: Forever “requires World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time” — the same sub that covers modern WoW and Classic. No box, no separate license, launch on November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST for every subscriber.
What is on sale are upgrade packs, and the thing that separates “sub only” from “any pack” is the
Skyborne race with its
Zephras Isle starting zone, plus Early Name Reservation (October 27–November 3). The shop footnote is explicit that the race and its starting questline need Heroic or higher.
Above that, the tiers separate on three things only: beta access (Epic and up, from September 17), 30 days of game time (Epic and up, added from November 4) and Invite-A-Friend Launch Codes (1 on Heroic, 3 on Epic and Collection). The Collection bolts on Warcraft III: Reforged and its Forsaken Kingdom campaign. The $150 physical edition is the Collection’s digital code plus a 13-inch statue and merchandise. Everything below is that sentence as a table, then who should buy which.

What Is in Each Pack, Tier by Tier
Blizzard lists the packs cumulatively — each tier is everything below it plus the rows here.
Skyborne Heroic Pack — $29.99. The Skyborne race and the Zephras Isle starting experience; Early Name Reservation; the Cerulean Prideclaw ground mount (Blizzard notes the riding skill must still be bought in-game, so it is a mount you own at level 1 and ride when you can afford to); Shen’dorei Skyseer’s Garb; Veteran Adventurer’s Rucksack; Shen’dorei Windwell toy; Skyborne Housing decor for modern WoW; 1 Invite-A-Friend Launch Code.
Skyborne Epic Pack — $59.99. Everything in Heroic, plus beta access from September 17; 30 days of Game Time added starting November 4; the Veteran Adventurer’s Loyal Companion ground mount (a bear); Veteran Adventurer’s Outdoor Wear transmog; Zergling, Panda, Diablo and Pachimari pets (Forever-only, per shop copy); Lordaeron and Shen’dorei tabards (Forever-only); 2 more codes, 3 total.
Warcraft Forever Collection — $79.99, through January 11, 2027. Everything in Epic, plus Warcraft III: Reforged and the Forsaken Kingdom campaign — the story Forever picks up after — and Forsaken and Human Figurine Housing decor for modern WoW. The Collection is the only tier with a cutoff date.
Two footnotes that matter. The Housing decor is for modern WoW (Housing arrived with Midnight), not for Forever — nothing in Forever has player housing. And the shop states that pack benefits apply only to the specific WoW account you buy them for: two game accounts, two packs. Mount and cosmetic details are on the mounts page; the race itself on the Skyborne page.
The $150 Physical Collector’s Edition
Sold on the Blizzard Gear Store, not the Battle.net Shop, at $150.00. Blizzard’s CE page and Gear Store listing give the contents:
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Digital | Warcraft Forever Collection code — the full $79.99 tier, beta included |
| Statue | 13-inch Dwarf and Bear — the cinematic trailer’s Dwarf Hunter and companion |
| Mousepad | Zephras Isle |
| Art prints | Included |
| Pins | Included |
| Journal | Companion journal |
| Limit | 3 per household |
| Ships to | Select North and South America locations; Australia / New Zealand via JB Hi-Fi and EB Games |
| Returns | All sales final |
The CE’s beta code has its own rules: it requires a WoW game account, is one redemption per game account, and cannot be redeemed on an account that already has beta. So buying Epic now for beta and a CE later for the statue does not stack beta — which is where the Balance rule below comes in.
Not published as of September 16: an EU or UK Gear Store price, a ship date, and whether the statue is the same gold finish shown at the What’s Next panel. If the statue is the reason you are buying, the trailer embedded above is the reference.
The Rules: Codes, Balance Credit, Accounts
Four footnotes from Blizzard’s pages that decide whether a pack does what you think.
| Rule | What it says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Invite-A-Friend Launch Codes | Emailed from October 20, 2026; let an invitee play Forever November 4–11 without a sub or game time; Heroic 1, Epic/Collection 3; gift purchases are excluded | Pre-purchase page, Sep 12 |
| Per-account benefits | Pack benefits apply only to the specific WoW account the pack was purchased for | Battle.net Shop, read Sep 16 |
| Balance credit for CE upgraders | If you bought a digital pack and later redeem a CE code, you may receive Battle.net Balance equal to the amount paid — redeem by December 31, 2027; product-dependent | CE announcement, Sep 12 |
| 30 days game time | Epic and Collection; added starting November 4, not at purchase | Pre-purchase page, Sep 12 |
| Riding skill | The Cerulean Prideclaw is granted; the riding skill is still bought in-game | Pre-purchase page, Sep 12 |
The Balance rule is the one people miss. It means the safe order is buy Epic now (beta on September 17, name reservation October 27), and if you later want the statue, the CE refunds the Epic as Balance — provided you redeem by the end of 2027 and the product qualifies. Blizzard’s support article on it is product-dependent, so read the CE page before assuming.
The gift exclusion matters for the codes specifically: a pack bought as a gift still gives the recipient Skyborne and name reservation, but the invite codes are not issued. Buy it on the account that will use it.
Which One Should You Buy? Our Read, by Player Type
Our PRO team’s read, not Blizzard guidance. Prices and contents above are sourced; the recommendations are ours.
| You are… | Buy | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Coming back for Classic with new content, no interest in Skyborne, fine with a launch-day name scramble | Sub only ($0 extra) | Forever is in your sub. Every dungeon, raid, zone and class change is yours; you give up the race, the name week and codes. |
| Want a locked two-part name on October 27, maybe a Skyborne alt | Heroic $29.99 | Cheapest tier with name reservation and the race. Beta is the only thing you are skipping. |
| Want to test a class in beta before launch and play through November | Epic $59.99 | Beta from Sep 17, 30 days of game time from Nov 4 (worth a month’s sub) and 3 codes. The best value tier if you were going to sub anyway. |
| Never played Warcraft III: Reforged or Forsaken Kingdom and want the story Forever continues | Collection $79.99 | $20 over Epic for WC3 Reforged + Forsaken Kingdom + figurines. Buy before Jan 11, 2027 — it leaves the shop. |
| Collector, in the Americas or AU/NZ, want the statue | CE $150 | Collection code plus the 13" statue and merch. All sales final; limit 3. If you already own Epic, the Balance rule refunds it. |
| Playing Forever with two or three friends who do not sub | Epic or Collection | 3 invite codes = 3 friends playing Nov 4–11 free. Heroic’s single code covers one. |
Our honest default for most players reading this: Epic. The 30 days of game time offsets roughly a month of subscription against the $30 step up from Heroic, beta lets you settle the class question before the name week, and three codes bring the group. Heroic is right if beta is noise to you and you just want the name. Sub-only is right if Skyborne does nothing for you — you lose nothing that affects how the game plays.
The Base Game: Subscription Only, No Box
To be exact about what a plain subscriber gets on November 4: all of Forever. The nine new dungeons, the December 9 raids, the new zones, the reworked classes and racials, the Legacy system, realmless rulesets, the graphics update — none of it is pack-gated. The packs sell a race, a starting zone, a name week, beta, game time, codes and cosmetics. That is the complete list.
Practical details Icy Veins has confirmed from Blizzard’s copy: Forever runs as a dedicated client, and you cannot play Forever and modern WoW at the same time on one Battle.net account — same as Classic today. Blizzard’s wording is “Subscription or Game Time” — prepaid Game Time counts the same as a recurring sub.
Blizzard has also said, in interviews reported by Wowhead and Icy Veins on September 14, that there are “no plans” for a WoW Token or paid character boosts in Forever. There is no edition that skips the leveling. That is precisely why our 1–60 leveling pre-order and gold pre-order exist — a human does the 1–60 from 3:00 p.m. PST on launch day, and gold is farmed, not minted.
Not Announced
Open as of September 16, 2026; the changelog above gets a dated line when any of these close.
- Whether Heroic and Epic will still be sold after launch. Only the Collection has a published cutoff (January 11, 2027).
- EU / UK Collector’s Edition price and availability. Only the $150 US Gear Store price and the AU/NZ retail route are published.
- CE ship date.
- Regional prices beyond USD and EUR. We have read the US and EU shops only.
- Whether pack cosmetics work on the Hardcore ruleset once it launches — collections are account-wide across Normal, PvP and Roleplaying, but nothing flows into Hardcore.
- Per-region launch hours. One global time: November 4, 3:00 p.m. PST. Full calendar on the release date page.
If you have picked a pack, the next two dates are September 17 (beta, Epic and up) and October 27 (name reservation, any pack). Then November 4, 3:00 p.m. PST — which is when our pre-orders start delivering.
