How Forever talents work: 51 points, 7 rows, four golds
If you specced a character in 2019 Classic, you already know the shape. Blizzard's Deep Dive recap says Forever trees keep the same structure and row count as Classic, three trees per class, and that some talents are unchanged from patch 1.12. Points still total 51 at 60 — Principal Designer Kris Zierhut's figure, quoted by Icy Veins on September 14, and the number both live calculators count down from.

What is different is the fourth gold. Classic trees had one-point "medal" talents at 11, 21 and 31 points spent in a tree. Forever adds a one-pointer at 16, so every tree now carries four special talents instead of three. For a 31/20 hybrid that means your off-tree reaches two golds (11 and 16) instead of one; for a 51-point main tree you pick up all four. The Paladin list in the next section shows what the new row actually contains for one class.
The other structural change is subtraction. Divine Spirit, Blessing of Kings and Improved Mark of the Wild are baseline — Priests, Paladins and Druids no longer spend points to bring a buff the raid expects. Those freed points are why Forever builds look slightly richer than their 1.12 twins even at the same 51 total. Every class also inherits merged hit and merged crit, which changes what a hybrid spec is for; details on class changes.
Wowhead vs Icy Veins: the two live calculators
Both tools went live within a day of each other and both model the same system. Neither is official; both were built from what Blizzard showed on the BlizzCon demo floor. Use the right URL — Wowhead has a similarly named Midnight calculator that proves nothing about Forever.
| Wowhead | Icy Veins | |
|---|---|---|
| URL | wowhead.com/forever/talent-calc | icy-veins.com/wow-forever/talent-calculator + per-class pages /wow-forever/{class}-talent-calculator |
| Live since | September 13, 2026 (updated from BlizzCon panels/demo) | September 14, 2026 |
| Classes | All 9 in the picker | All 9 — Paladin and Priest calculators exist even though their class overviews still say "Coming Soon" |
| Model | 51 points, 7 rows, golds at 11/16/21/31 | Same |
| Tree names | Classic names (Druid confirmed live: Balance / Feral Combat / Restoration) | Classic names |
| Build sharing | Click-to-spend nodes, remaining-points counter, shareable build URL | Per-class calculator pages |
| Own caveat | "Near-perfect vs the BlizzCon demo"; rank scaling and new icons may be wrong until beta datamine | Shaman overview changelog: preliminary Sep 12, spell/talent pass Sep 15 |
| Legacy trees | Separate tool: wowhead.com/forever/legacy-calculator | Prose guide only, no interactive calculator found Sep 16 |
| Dual spec toggle | None | None |
Wrong URL warning: wowhead.com/talent-calc/forever is the retail Midnight tool. The Forever one has /forever/ first. If your calculator shows hero talents or a class that is not one of the nine, you are in the wrong game.
Which to open first: Wowhead for sharing a build link and for the separate Legacy calculator; Icy Veins for reading the Shaman tree alongside their overview text, which is the only per-class writeup with named capstones outside Paladin. The Legacy system — 16-point cap, three trees, separate from the 51 — is its own page: Legacy system.
Read the caveats: this is BlizzCon-build data, not the live client
Everything in both calculators comes from the BlizzCon demo build shown September 12–13 — panel slides, the playable floor demo and the Deep Dive walkthrough. That build is a snapshot, and its authors say so. Three things to keep in mind before you commit to a build:
- Rank scaling may be wrong. Wowhead's own article states that while the trees are "near-perfect" against the demo, rank values and new icons may be wrong until the beta datamine. A 3/3 talent that reads +6% today may read +9% or +3% on Thursday.
- Some nodes are placeholders. Wowhead comment threads report nodes that do not apply or sit as placeholders. That is community observation, not a Blizzard statement — but it is why we do not print full tree dumps for seven classes.
- Names can change between demo and beta. Blizzard has published the Paladin names in text; every other class's new talent names exist only as readouts of a demo screen. The Icy Veins Shaman overview is the best of these, and even it went through a "spell/talent pass" on September 15.
The practical rule: trust the structure, hold the numbers. The 51 total, the 7 rows, the four golds and the baseline buffs are Blizzard text and will not move. Percentages, cooldown seconds and icon art are demo readouts until the beta client is read. Blizzard's Deep Dive did give one hard number that survives regardless — Holy Shock on a 10-second cooldown for Holy Paladins — because it is in the recap, not in a screenshot.
Known capstones and named talents: Paladin (official) and Shaman (readout)
Two classes have named talents on record. Everything else, open the calculator and read it yourself — we do not invent names.
| Class / tree | Named talents | Evidence class |
|---|---|---|
| Improved Holy Strike, Voice of Truth, Reverence, Infusion of Light, Holy Shock (10 s CD), Consecrated Ground, Light's Vigil (party-wide heal option) | Blizzard text | |
| Improved Seal of Fury, Shield Specialization, Swift Judgment, Templar's Bulwark, redesigned Reckoning, Iron Creed | Blizzard text | |
| Vindication, Sacred Arbiter, Champion of the Light, Instrument of the Law, Twist of Light (seal twisting without a swing-timer addon) | Blizzard text | |
| Lava Burst (31-point capstone), Lightning Overload; Lightning Bolt 2.5 s at max rank | Icy Veins BlizzCon-build readout | |
| Rage of the Farseer (31-point capstone) | Icy Veins readout | |
| Riptide (row not readable in the overview) | Icy Veins readout | |
| Shaman — totems | Totemic Projection, Totemic Recall, Call of the Elements (3 s); Fire Nova is no longer a totem | Icy Veins readout |
| Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Mage, Warlock, Druid | Not copied — open the calculator | Not on record |
Note what Blizzard did not tell you for Paladin: which row each named talent sits in. The recap lists names per tree, not positions, so "Twist of Light is the 31" is a calculator readout until the beta confirms it. The full Paladin changelist with Seal of Fury mechanics is on the Paladin guide; the Shaman totem and capstone readout with the Enhancement dual-wield debate marked as unresolved is on class changes and Dwarf Shaman.
How to read a build link and plan a leveling path
A Wowhead build link encodes one class and one 51-point distribution; the page shows three trees side by side with a remaining-points counter. Read it in this order:
- Count the main tree first. A 31-point main tree unlocks its top gold; 51 in one tree is legal but leaves the other two empty. Most Classic-style endgame builds sit at 31/20/0 or 30/21/0 — with the new 16, a 31/20 build now reaches five golds total (31, 21, 16, 11 in the main; 16 and 11 in the off-tree).
- Check which golds are lit. The one-point milestones are the build's identity. If a shared link skips the 16 in the main tree, ask why.
- Ignore the percentages for now. Per the caveats above, rank values are demo readouts until September 17.
- Legacy is not in the link. Legacy points (16 per character at launch, three trees) live in a separate Wowhead tool and are not spent inside the 51.
| Points spent | Gold unlocked in that tree | Classic comparison |
|---|---|---|
| 11 | First one-pointer | Same as 1.12 |
| 16 | New one-pointer | Did not exist |
| 21 | Third one-pointer | Same as 1.12 |
| 31 | Capstone one-pointer | Same as 1.12 |
| 51 | All points spent at level 60 | Same total |
For a leveling plan the question is which tree's low golds help at 20–40, where Forever's nine dungeons with no level scaling start mattering. A Protection Paladin, for instance, already has Seal of Fury, baseline Consecration at 20 and Holy Strike at 6 without a single talent — the tree adds Improved Seal of Fury and Swift Judgment on top. Leveling routes and dungeon levels: leveling guide and dungeons. Whether you can hold two builds at once is unanswered — dual spec status.
What changes on September 17: beta and the Q&A
Two things happen Thursday. The beta opens at a level 20 cap, rising to 30 after a couple of weeks (Clay Stone, Destin interview), running to October 21. And Blizzard's live Q&A airs at 10:30 a.m. PDT (Forever segment) on the Warcraft Twitch and YouTube channels. Wowhead already reports the beta client is dataminable. For the calculators that means:
- Rank values and tooltips get real numbers. Both sites will re-read the trees from the client; expect the "may be wrong" caveat to disappear within days.
- A 20 cap verifies the low rows. If points arrive one per level from 10 — which 51 at 60 implies — the 11th point lands at level 20, so testers can confirm the first gold in each tree and the level-6 / level-20 baseline changes. The 16, 21 and 31 golds wait for the cap raise and beyond.
- Seven classes get names. The Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Mage, Warlock and Druid new talents that we have deliberately not listed will be readable, and Blizzard has promised more class posts.
- The Q&A may settle dual spec and respec costs, both currently unannounced.
Beta progress does not carry to live (Icy Veins), so a beta build is a test, not a commitment. Beta access: Skyborne Epic Pack ($59.99), Warcraft Forever Collection ($79.99), CE code, or the chance-based Battle.net opt-in — beta guide. The panel weekend that produced all of this: BlizzCon 2026.
Plan the build with someone who reads trees for a living
A calculator tells you what a tree contains. It does not tell you which 51 points make a dungeon group take you at level 25 on a realmless ruleset with thousands of other applicants. That is the part a Pro is for.
- Coaching, $29/hour — a Pro sits on the calculator with you, separates Blizzard-text talents from demo readouts, plans a leveling spec around the 11 and 16 golds and an endgame spec around the 31, and re-checks it the week beta data lands.
- 1–60 Leveling Boost, from $259 — pre-order, delivery from November 4, 2026. You arrive at 60 with 51 unspent decisions and spend them once on the build you actually want. There are no paid Blizzard boosts and no WoW Token in Forever (Clay Stone: "no plans"), so this is the only skip.
We will update this page when the beta datamine lands and when Blizzard posts each class. Until then the safe reading is: structure certain, numbers pending. Related: classes, racials, Forever vs Classic.
