WoW Forever Protection Warrior PvE Guide

• October 15, 2026 patch notes. Protection gets no direct changes in the 15 October notes, and Battle Shout now reaches the whole raid. Shield Bash and Shield Slam no longer trigger Weaponmaster's Sword Specialization, and Lingering Rage no longer stops health regeneration after combat. Tauren Endurance keeps +5% health and swaps +1% hit for +2% critical damage and healing, and Dwarf Earth Fury adds 2% critical damage and healing with any weapon. Prot here is the shield tank. Blizzard published the Warrior kit on 30 September, with Vanguard at 16 points, Bastion, Shield Specialization and Improved Shield Wall. Path stays provisional while the beta runs.

What the new Rage rules mean for a tank. Rage from damage taken now ignores Armor and absorbs, so a plate tank with a shield keeps full Rage on every hit. Shield Specialization adds 5 Rage on a block. Rage from your own swings is normalized by weapon speed, and the 1 October beta build raised bonus Rage from critical strikes to +100% (the 30 September deep dive said 75%). Vanguard, the 16-point talent, lets Charge work in Defensive Stance. Shield Wall no longer shares a cooldown with Recklessness and Retaliation, and Improved Shield Wall shortens it.

Level 10. Open Prot. Mail then plate. Keep a shield equipped. Fury dual-wield is the wrong threat model for this page.

Level 20 to 40. Spend golds in Protection. Sunder Armor is the stack you keep on the boss. Taunt range is still a Classic 5 yards until Blizzard says otherwise. Bring a kick class for caster packs in dungeons.

Level 50 to 60. Finish Prot, then the Forever 16-point row. Stats: stamina, then strength. Recheck the talent calculator after each beta build.

Prot BiS prefers a shield every slot upgrade. Stamina, armor, dodge / block. Named lists stay provisional.

Week 1. Quest blues with a shield swap every few levels. Get week-1 gear done.

Weeks 2 to 3. Pre-raid dungeon set. 1 run per instance for quests. Get the dungeon set done.

From 9 December. Barrow Deeps (10), Hyjal Summit (20) and Onyxia. A Prot Warrior still leveling in the 50s misses tanks needed for opening lockouts. Raid carry options.

Every other spec, and the 18 tier 1 sets: BiS lists for every spec.

Prot PvE Ultimate is Blacksmithing + Enchanting: plate crafts and weapon / shield enchants. The plate route to 300 is in the Blacksmithing guide. Live packages match checkout.

Forever has a built-in Cooldown Manager since the 24 September beta build, so Shield Wall and Last Stand timers work without a WeakAuras port.

Prot queues faster in dungeons but still needs about 150 hours of quest XP. The 8 October build raised dungeon kill XP by about 20%, and the 1 October beta build cut the dungeon-quest bonus by 50%, so 1 clear per dungeon is enough. Pre-order $299 / $420. Normal ruleset.
