What changed for every Paladin
Blizzard picked the
Paladin as its example of the class rework because the class had the largest gap in Classic: no taunt, and 1 button before level 20. 4 changes fix that for every Paladin, whatever the spec.
Holy Strike is learned at level 6. It is an instant weapon strike that deals Holy damage, on a cooldown of 12 seconds, and all 3 trees have
talents that improve it. Judgment no longer consumes the seal. You judge, the seal stays up, and the seal busywork of Classic is gone.
Seal of Fury is the new tank seal, and it does 3 things. Every swing adds Holy damage whatever the weapon speed, so a fast weapon hits more often. With a shield equipped each hit grants a small absorb shield. And Judgment of Fury taunts the target at 10 yards, where Growl and Taunt reach 5.
Consecration is baseline at level 20. It deals light damage to everything that enters it and heavy damage to the 1st 4 enemies, so a
Paladin holds a group without pulling the whole room.
Your Paladin from Holy Strike at level 6 to level 60 in 14 days
With 1 booster your Paladin is 60 around 18 November, with 2 boosters in shifts around 11 November. Human, Dwarf or Undead, the epic mount quest of your race waits at 60.

Protection: how the taunt works
Classic
Paladin tanks had no way to pull a mob off a healer. In Forever the taunt is a Judgment, so it obeys the seal rules: keep Seal of Fury up, judge the target, and it turns to you. A miss no longer ends the moment, because the 16-point
talent resets the Judgment.
| Protection talent | What Blizzard says it does |
|---|---|
| Improved Seal of Fury | 11-point talent. Mana back every time Seal of Fury absorbs damage |
| Shield Specialization | More mana on every block, enough to last a whole boss with the seal |
| Swift Judgment | 16-point talent. Resets Judgment once a minute, so a missed taunt gets a 2nd try |
| Templar's Bulwark | 21-point talent. An absorb shield equal to your maximum health. Triggers Forbearance |
| Reckoning | Redesigned. It now also triggers from blocks, so it works for crit-immune tanks |
| Iron Creed | Deep talent. A Holy Strike reduces the damage you take by 10% for a few seconds |

The mana loop is the design: absorbs and blocks pay for the seal, so a Protection
Paladin sustains a whole fight without drinking. What Blizzard did not add is an interrupt, so a Paladin tank still brings a
Rogue, a
Warrior or a
Mage for the kick in Forever's 9
dungeons.
Holy: Light's Vigil and a faster Holy Shock
Classic Holy
Paladins were single-target healers with no group heal. Blizzard's summary for Forever is strong single-target healing plus a new group heal, and Holy Shock moves from the 31-point slot to 21 points with a cooldown of 10 seconds.
| Holy talent | What Blizzard says it does |
|---|---|
| Improved Holy Strike | Row 1. Shorter cooldown on Holy Strike |
| Voice of Truth | 11-point |
| Reverence | Mana back from Spirit while in combat. |
| Infusion of Light | A Holy Shock or Flash of Light crit shortens the next Holy Light, so you mix the 3 spells |
| Holy Shock | Now at 21 points, cooldown 10 seconds |
| Consecrated Ground | Enemies standing in your Consecration take more Holy damage |
| Light's Vigil | Put it on an ally. Your next Holy Shock on them heals their whole party and resets Holy Shock. On an enemy it adds damage instead |
Light's Vigil needs setup, and that is the point: Blizzard did not want a
Paladin copy of Chain Heal or Prayer of Healing. Place Vigil on 1 player per party and a
raid heal becomes Holy Shock, Holy Shock, Holy Shock. Blizzard also says Paladins keep the best single-target heal in the game and hold their mana longer than any other healer.
Retribution: Twist of Light and real damage
Blizzard's stated goal is damage that makes Retribution melee competitive, and it names Retribution with Enhancement
Shaman as the hybrids that gain most from 1 hit stat. 2 game-wide changes stack on top: seals survive Judgment, so the judge and re-seal loop is gone, and Holy Strike gives a real button from level 6.
| Retribution talent | What Blizzard says it does |
|---|---|
| Vindication | Reworked. Reduces the target's attack power and raises your own, like Demoralizing Shout |
| Sacred Arbiter | Empowers Holy Strike and refreshes your Judgments on the target, so 1 |
| Champion of the Light | Spell damage and healing scale with Intellect, so mana gear is no longer dead weight |
| Instrument of the Law | Makes Holy Wrath instant and lowers your threat |
| Twist of Light | Replace a damaging seal with another and the old 1 echoes into your next swing, so both seals hit. Seal twisting without an addon |
If you do not like seal twisting, Blizzard describes the other build. Skip Twist of Light, take Champion of the Light, put 21 points into Holy and use Holy Shock as a ranged Holy nuke. The Shockadin is a planned path.
Strengths and holes Blizzard kept
Blizzard closed the summary with the gaps it kept on purpose, so no class becomes a copy of another. For a group that means a
Paladin tank or Retribution Paladin still needs someone else to kick a caster or slow a runner. It also means the class keeps its edges: Exorcism, Holy Wrath and Turn
Undead make Paladins the strongest pick against demons and undead, and Forever's story starts right after the Third War.
Paladin races: Human, Dwarf, Undead
3 races can be
Paladins at launch:
Human and
Dwarf on the
Alliance and, new in Forever,
Undead on the
Horde. The Undead Paladin needs nothing beyond a normal subscription. Every race now has 2 active and 2 passive racials, and Blizzard has detailed the Dwarf and Undead sets.
| Race | Racials that matter to a Paladin | Epic mount at 60 |
|---|---|---|
| Blizzard has not published the | Quest in the name of Redemption | |
| Quest in the name of Redemption | ||
| Own |

Dwarf is the quiet Protection pick:
Stoneform as physical damage reduction is a tank cooldown in racial form.
Undead is the mana pick: Blizzard calls
Cannibalize fantastic for
Paladins, because a mana-hungry hybrid gets a refill between pulls. Forsaken Paladins are sent to Bandarion Keep in the
Whispering Wood of
Tirisfal around level 10 and get most of their class quests there. The full page is Undead Paladin.
60 by 9 December: leveling a Paladin
On the Classic reference a
Paladin levels at the average pace of the 9 classes. Forever changes its opening hour. Holy Strike at level 6 turns the old auto-attack into a rotation, and Consecration at 20 deals with pulls of 2 mobs.
The climb from 1 to 60 is
quest-led and takes about 150 hours of play. The XP curve has not changed, mobs in
dungeons pay less XP, and a dungeon's quests pay more on the 1st run.
Raid night is 9 December 2026, when
Barrow Deeps,
Hyjal Summit and
Onyxia's Lair open. A solo
Paladin at 3 hours a night gets to 60 around 24 December. With a booster the character is 60 in November, which leaves weeks for dungeon blues and
gold.
Seal of Fury makes a Protection
Paladin a real tank straight from the tree, so the class fills dungeon groups fast on the way up. Blizzard has announced no dungeon finder, and Forever has no WoW Token or paid boost, so a carry is the only skip. See power leveling for the route by level bracket.
Coaching and the Undead Paladin in the leveling builder
Any
Paladin race can be leveled for you. The Undead Paladin in the leveling builder sets class and race before the order starts, and the same slider takes
Human and
Dwarf Paladins along the same 1 to 60 route. A refund is full until the 1st session, the hours are re-checked on the beta, and a pre-order's price holds once it is placed.
Coaching is $29 an hour, and the Pro covers Seal of Fury threat, seal twisting with Twist of Light, and a Holy build that
quests on the 1/3 spell-damage rule. Where Blizzard has not published a number, the Pro tells you so.
From the source
Official“Paladins still lack an interrupt, still cannot slow targets the way some other classes can, and still rely on the Seal and Judgment system to access their taunt rather than pressing a single-purpose button.”
FAQ
- The Undead Paladin link now opens the leveling builder with the class set.
- The 2 leveling options after the plan to 60 now give the day each one reaches 60 and point to the epic mount quest there. A chat preset asks how the Seal of Fury taunt works.
- Guide rebuilt: every named talent with the effect Blizzard described, the taunt mechanics, the strengths and holes Blizzard kept, the 3 races and the plan to 60. Leveling cards for 1 and 2 boosters sit under the plan.
