What changed for professions (as of September 16, 2026)
Professions in Forever are the same nine skills you know, with a new job. In 2019 Classic most crafted gear was a stepping stone you outgrew by the next dungeon, and food was a stamina snack. Blizzard's Deep Dive panel changed three things: the recipe book grew by more than 600 entries, crafted food started paying experience, and professions became the supply chain for the camping system.

What did not change: the profession list and, as far as Blizzard has said, the 300 skill cap. No tenth profession, no new cap, no spec system has been announced. Anyone selling you a Forever Jewelcrafting guide is guessing.
Professions are one of the gold engines on a fresh economy with no Token — how the auction house, guild banks, riding and repair costs and launch-week prices work is in the WoW Forever gold & economy guide.
600+ new recipes: what Blizzard actually said
The number is official and the scope is broad: over 600 new recipes across every profession and every level range. Blizzard did not publish the list, the split per profession, or how they are learned. Wowhead's 13 Sep article restates the figure and adds that crafted food buffs also increase XP from kills; the Deep Dive liveblog adds that Cooking and Fishing were updated for camping.
Three sources of recipes are named in Blizzard's material:
| Recipe source | What it covers | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Trainers and camping NPCs | First camping objects at skill 20; presumably the bulk of the 600 | Official (Deep Dive) |
| Blueprints from dungeon bosses | Advanced camping objects | Official (Deep Dive) |
| Zone and quest rewards | Starting zones get profession hooks; Desolace centaur factions offer faction rewards | Official (Found Photos recap) — recipe type not specified |
Spread across nine professions and a 1–300 skill range, 600 recipes is roughly 65 new recipes per profession on average — enough to change what you craft at every bracket, not a handful of endgame patterns. That arithmetic is ours, not Blizzard's; the per-profession split is not announced.
Crafted food: an XP bonus plus stats
The single biggest leveling change hidden inside professions. Blizzard's recap: crafted food grants a small XP bonus and stat boosts. Icy Veins' 13 Sep headline puts a number on it — 5% more XP from kills. We attribute that figure to Icy Veins; Blizzard's written recap says only small.
| Claim | Source | Confidence |
|---|---|---|
| Crafted food grants an XP bonus | Blizzard Deep Dive recap, 13 Sep | Official |
| Crafted food grants stat boosts | Blizzard Deep Dive recap, 13 Sep | Official |
| The bonus is +5% XP from kills | Icy Veins news, 13 Sep | Press — attributed, not in Blizzard's recap |
| Bonus applies to quest XP | — | Not announced |
Why this matters more than 5% sounds: Blizzard confirmed the XP curve to 60 is unchanged from original WoW (Zierhut and Nuthals, Sun interview via Wowhead, 15 Sep), and the recap says a solo player kills an ordinary mob in about 10–15 seconds. Over the roughly 1,000 new quests and the usual grind, a kill-XP multiplier that you can keep running all session is the closest thing to a leveling buff the game offers. It stacks with the Legacy Well Rested perk because one is kill XP and the other is rested XP.
Cooking therefore stops being optional for anyone who wants to level fast. Pair it with the leveling route and with the upgraded campfires only Cooks can place.
Blueprints: recipes from dungeon bosses
Blizzard's itemization pass added a new recipe type: Blueprints, dropped by dungeon bosses, teaching the advanced camping objects. Each profession has three objects at different skill levels; the first is trainer-taught at skill 20, the higher tiers come from Blueprints.
Icy Veins fills in the only complete ladder so far — Blacksmithing:
| Skill | Blacksmithing object | How learned |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | Sharpening Wheel (+Attack Power camp buff) | Trainer / camping NPC (Blizzard); skill per Icy Veins |
| 140 | Anvil | Icy Veins; Blueprint source implied by Blizzard's rule |
| 300 | Master Forge | Icy Veins; Blueprint source implied by Blizzard's rule |
Which of the nine new dungeons drops which Blueprint is not announced. The brackets run from Hall of Thanes at 13–18 to Shaper's Terrace at 58–60, so a 140-skill object plausibly sits in the mid brackets and a 300-skill object in Blackmaw Hold or Shaper's Terrace — our inference, not a drop table. Beta testers cap at 20 rising to 30 and will only see the first Blueprint tier, if any.
The consequence for a crafter: your top-tier profession output is gated behind group content. A Blacksmith who never runs dungeons will not place a Master Forge. That is a change from Vanilla, where most 300 patterns were vendor, trainer or world drops.
Camping objects by profession
The camping system is where professions pay out socially. Blizzard named five objects; the rest are not announced by name.
| Profession | Named object | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Blacksmithing | Sharpening Wheel | +Attack Power buff (class-buff variant, does not stack) |
| Tailoring | Faction Banner | +Spirit buff |
| Herbalism | Incense Candle | +Intellect buff |
| Alchemy | Alchemy Lab | Workspace |
| Leatherworking | Tanning Rack | Workspace — required for advanced Leatherworking recipes |
| Cooking | Upgraded Campfires | Hold 5 or 10 objects instead of 3 |
Two rules shape the meta. One object per player, so a group wants profession variety. And all objects share a one-hour cooldown, so your object is a once-an-hour contribution. The Tanning Rack line is the one to underline: it means a Leatherworker's advanced recipes are crafted at a camp, not in town. Full mechanics, tiers and open questions: camping guide.
Legacy perks for professions: Bountiful Harvest and Reagent Economy
The Legacy System has a whole tree named Professions, and two of the three talents Blizzard has named touch crafting and gathering:
- Bountiful Harvest — increases mining, herbalism and skinning yield. More ore, herbs and leather per node.
- Reagent Economy — removes reagent costs. Filed under Resourcefulness on the fan calculators.
Legacy Points are earned account-wide, and Blizzard's own example of a Legacy Challenge is reaching a skill milestone — Icy Veins calls the family Tradeskill. So leveling a profession funds the pool that pays for Bountiful Harvest on your gathering alt. Each character spends up to 16 points at launch from an account ceiling of 65.
Exact yield increase and point costs are not announced. Hardcore characters do not receive Legacy from other rulesets, so a Hardcore crafter starts without these perks.
The gear overhaul: why crafted gear matters again
Recipes only matter if the output is worth wearing. Blizzard's Deep Dive describes an itemization pass that resets the bar crafted gear competes against:
- Every dungeon drop re-examined; unique dungeon boss items now blue quality; hundreds of new drops; set bonuses improved.
- Merged hit and crit (spell/melee/ranged), weapon skill on items reduced, bonus healing now includes one-third as much bonus damage, caster weapons grant spell damage/healing.
- New situational stats and effects: reduce enemy parry/dodge, environment- and creature-type-specific item effects, more situational trinkets such as the Worgenbane Talisman.
- World-drop epics improved; hundreds of new rare-creature drops.
What this means for a crafter is written between the lines rather than stated: with merged hit and crit and situational effects, there are more stat slots for a crafted item to fill, and a blue dungeon item is a fairer benchmark than a green. Blizzard did not print a sentence that says crafted gear is now competitive — the 600 recipes and the stat rework are the evidence, and we say so plainly.

What is not announced
Blizzard has not published:
- New professions — none announced.
- Skill cap changes — none announced; treat 300 as the cap until told otherwise.
- The recipe list or the per-profession split of the 600+.
- The food XP value — Blizzard says small; +5% kill XP is Icy Veins.
- Blueprint drop table — which boss teaches which object.
- Camping objects for Enchanting, Engineering, Mining, Skinning, Fishing and First Aid.
- Bountiful Harvest yield and Legacy point costs.
The beta opens 17 September 2026 at a level-20 cap; the first datamine of the client landed on 16 Sep, so the recipe list will surface in fan databases before Blizzard prints it. We update this page as it does. Hub: /wow-forever; dates: release date.
Which profession first — for gold, for leveling (our PRO team's read)
Opinion, labelled. Blizzard has published the systems, not the numbers, so this is priority order from our PROs based on the published rules. We rewrite it when the recipe list lands.
| Goal | First profession | Second | Why (published fact it leans on) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Leveling fast | Cooking | Gathering of any kind | Food = XP bonus + stats (Blizzard); Cooks own the 5/10-object campfires; gathering funds Tradeskill Legacy milestones |
| Gold at launch | Herbalism or Mining | Skinning | Bountiful Harvest raises yield on all three; 600+ recipes need raw materials before anyone has them; Riverglades adds a Black Market AH (Wowhead) |
| Group utility | Blacksmithing | Leatherworking | Only profession with a published 20/140/300 object ladder; Tanning Rack is required for advanced LW |
Our reasoning on gold: in every Classic launch the first two weeks pay gatherers, not crafters, because crafters are still buying materials to level. Forever adds two accelerants — a Legacy yield talent and a recipe book six hundred entries deeper — and removes none of the demand. Crafting professions catch up once Blueprints start dropping, roughly when the mid brackets fill.
Blizzard has said it has no plans for a WoW Token (Clay Stone, 14 Sep), so gold arrives from the auction house, from farming or from a pre-order like ours. Forever Gold starts at $19, launch-week delivery, pre-order now. Profession Leveling 1–300 is $89: one profession to cap, self-play or piloted, delivery from 4 November 2026 — the Pro plays on your ruleset and faction.
