WoW Forever Dual Spec: Not Announced. What Blizzard Published and Which Spec to Level

Updated 2026-09-29 · 8 min read · by LFCarry PRO team

Blizzard has not announced dual spec for World of Warcraft: Forever. What it has published is a talent system built for 1 build of 51 points, 4 raid buffs moved to baseline and an account-wide Legacy system. The published Paladin kit tanks and quests in 1 spec. This guide covers that record, why the spec question matters more on a realmless game, and which tree to level in before the 4 November launch.

WoW Forever Dual Spec: Not Announced. What Blizzard Published and Which Spec to Level

Dual spec: not announced for Forever

Blizzard has not announced dual talent specialization for World of Warcraft: Forever, and it has not published a respec cost. Launch day is 4 November 2026 at 3:00 PM PST. Until Blizzard says otherwise, plan for 1 spec at a time, and this page changes the day that changes.

What Blizzard has published points in 1 direction: a game where a single spec does more than it did in Classic. The talent trees have a 4th gold talent, 4 raid buffs no longer cost points, hybrid itemization is rebuilt, and the Legacy system carries perks across every character on the account. Those 4 things are the rest of this guide.

Many beta players ask for dual spec, and Blizzard has not announced it.

1 build of 51 points: how the trees work

Every class keeps 3 talent trees with 7 rows each and 51 points at level 60, the Classic total. Each tree has a 1-point gold talent at 11, 21 and 31 points spent, and Forever adds a 4th at 16. Blizzard says the new talents are the kind you notice, where a build makes a real tradeoff.

For a 1-spec world the 16 matters most. A 31-point main tree now lights 4 golds, and the 20 points left for a 2nd tree reach 2 more. A Protection Paladin with 20 points in Holy, or a Priest with 20 in Shadow, is a real build instead of a compromise. The talent calculator guide walks the trees in detail.

Blizzard’s stated target is that all 27 trees are worth bringing to a dungeon or raid. That does not replace a 2nd spec, but it removes the Classic case where a tree existed only to be respecced out of.

Baseline buffs end the buff-bot spec

In Classic, the most common reason a healer held a 2nd build was a buff talent the raid needed. Divine Spirit, Blessing of Kings, Improved Mark of the Wild and Improved Battle Shout are now baseline for the whole class. Nobody specs into a buff, so nobody has to spec out of it to quest.

Itemization does the same job for gear. Spell, melee and ranged hit share 1 hit rating, and the same merge applies to crit. Bonus healing now includes 1/3 as much bonus damage, so a healer in healing gear can quest. Caster weapons grant spell damage and healing. 1 gear set covers 2 roles far more often than it did in 2006.

Spirit joins the list. Every class that heals or deals damage with mana gets talents or abilities that return mana based on Spirit, so healing gear with Spirit is not wasted on a damage build.

Legacy: account-wide perks for every alt

The Legacy system is the account-wide progression Blizzard did publish. You earn Legacy Points by completing Legacy Challenges: level a class to 25, 45 and 60, reach a profession milestone, and so on. Points are shared by every character on the account, and each character spends them separately in 3 Legacy Trees: Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness.

At launch each character can spend up to 16 points, and up to 65 are earnable. Points beyond the cap feed a Legacy Reward Track of cosmetic and prestige rewards. Example perks: Well Rested raises rested XP gain and its cap, Bountiful Harvest raises gathering yield, and Reagent Economy removes reagent costs from class abilities.

Legacy is not a spec system. It is what makes a 2nd character cheaper to level, which is the other answer to a game with 1 spec: an alt for the other role. Blizzard says the system grows after launch with new challenges, perks and caps.

Why the spec question matters on Realmless

Forever is realmless. You pick a ruleset, Normal, PvP or Roleplaying, with Hardcore after launch, and you group only inside that ruleset and your own faction. Blizzard has not announced a dungeon finder for these rulesets. Groups form from a large pool in the world and in chat, and the 9 new dungeons run from level 13 to 60 with no level scaling.

Blizzard says threat and crowd control matter in those dungeons, and that Polymorph, Banish, Fear and Root are tools you need. A tank is the scarce role, and Blizzard just added a 3rd tank class: Seal of Fury gives Protection Paladins a taunt. Whether that Paladin can also quest as Retribution without a fee decides how many of them tank for strangers.

The date that sets the deadline is 9 December 2026, when the raids open. Barrow Deeps takes 10 players, Hyjal Summit 20 and Onyxia’s Lair 40, and every raid wants its tanks and healers at 60 with a settled build. 1 to 60 is about 150 hours of play.

An alt for the other role climbs the same 150 hours again, so each calendar doubles for a main and an alt.

Pick the spec you level in

You do not need the dual spec answer to plan a character. Pick the tree whose 11 and 16-point golds help most from level 20 to 40, and treat the level 60 build as a separate decision. If the 2 are the same tree, you never respec. If they differ, you respec once at 60, whatever the cost turns out to be.

Paladin is the clearest published example. Holy Strike at level 6, Seal of Fury with its taunt, and Consecration baseline at 20 mean a Protection Paladin tanks dungeons and still quests without a single talent. Holy Shock sits at 21 points with a cooldown of 10 seconds, so a Holy build reaches it by level 30. A Priest no longer needs Divine Spirit talents, so Shadow to 60 costs the raid nothing.

If a Pro plays the leveling, the spec question moves to 60: the character arrives with 51 unspent points and you spend them once on the build you want. A coaching hour settles the tree before that. A leveling order covers 1 to 60, and a coaching hour settles the tree at 60. An Undead Paladin is a ready path.

From the source

Blizzard Entertainment @worldofwarcraft.blizzard.comOfficial

“Talent trees are being revised with the same Classic-minded approach: familiar structure, the same number of rows, and one-point milestone talents at 11, 21, and 31 points, now joined by a new 16-point milestone.”
