No. Destiny 2 stays online and playable. On 21 May 2026 Bungie promised the game will remain playable, the way the original Destiny still is today.

The same post named Monument of Triumph the final live-service content update. It launched on 9 June 2026 with Pantheon and Sparrow Racing League.

On 21 September 2026 Bungie's new leadership changed course. The studio wrote: "we are not done with Destiny". It started work to restore vaulted campaigns, destinations and raids.

The game still gets fixes. Update 9.7.0.5 went live on 7 October 2026. Players came back too. The Sunday peak on Steam doubled in the week after the news. The numbers are on Destiny 2 player count.

What is the Destiny 2 Un-Vault?

The Un-Vault is Bungie's plan to put vaulted Destiny 2 content back into the game. The promise covers campaigns, destinations and raids.

Bungie says the restored content will be available to all Destiny 2 players.

It takes time. Destiny 2 has changed since Beyond Light, so each returning piece needs updated lighting, encounters, combatants and core systems.

Bungie will post progress updates in place of a long roadmap. On 25 September Josh Deane, head of product at Bungie, set a target: details of the 1st step before the end of October.

Release dates come when Bungie is ready to share them. On 8 October the 1st step was still unnamed. We add it here the day Bungie posts it.

What is in the Destiny Content Vault?

Beyond Light moved the 3 original campaigns, 6 destinations and 5 raids into the vault on 10 November 2020. The Witch Queen added the Forsaken campaign and the Tangled Shore on 22 February 2022.

The Dreaming City stayed in the game, and so did the Last Wish raid. Since August 2022 Bungie no longer vaults expansions, so every campaign from Shadowkeep onward is still playable.

Bungie has not said which vaulted piece returns 1st. Its promise names campaigns, destinations and raids, and says nothing yet about vaulted strikes or seasonal stories.

For the expansions you can still play, see vaulted and playable expansions.

Vaulted content that already came back

Bungie has rebuilt old content before. These pieces returned and are playable today.

Will there be a Destiny 3?

Bungie has not announced Destiny 3. On 21 September Bungie called the Un-Vault the 1st step toward new stories and new games in the Destiny universe.

No title, date or platform list exists yet. Any Destiny 3 release date you see today is a guess.

For now Destiny 2 is the home of the series.

What to play in Destiny 2 now
