How to Get Whisper of the Worm: The Whisper in Pinnacle Ops

Whisper of the Worm is the reward for The Whisper, a Taken mission that starts in a cave on Io. Since Update 9.7.0 on 9 June 2026, it launches from Pinnacle Ops in the Portal.

1. Open the Portal and pick Pinnacle Ops. The Whisper sits in the list of Exotic missions there.
2. Clear the mission. The rifle is awarded on completion, like the other Exotic missions in Pinnacle Ops.
3. Skip the old quest. Update 9.7.0 retired the quests tied to The Whisper.
4. Replay on Master or higher. Those clears unlock Field Prep, No Distractions and Enlightened Action as crafting options.

A Pro can also clear The Whisper on your account, with the catalyst and crafting unlocks you pick.

The Whisper runs on a clock. The Normal version gives you 40 minutes, and the harder versions keep the old 20-minute limit.

1. The cave. Shoot the small floating Vex cube to raise platforms. Climb to the Taken Phalanx, break the Taken Blight it guards and drop into the hole.
2. The jumping section. A long platforming run takes you deeper underground.
3. The Taken rooms. Clear every enemy in a room to break the Blight that blocks its exit. The large Taken Blights inside can be ignored.
4. The boss arena. 3 Vex cubes each hold a Taken boss. Urzok, Aspect of Hate waits on the left. Drevis, Aspect of Darkness waits in the middle. Ta'aurc, Aspect of War waits on the right. Free them 1 at a time or all at once.
5. Tulgorh, Aspect of Agony. This Taken Ogre arrives after the 3 bosses. Defeat the Taken that power his shield, then do it again when he calls more Taken and Blights.

You can run it with a fireteam or alone. The Lone Worm Triumph asks for a solo clear.

Whisper of the Worm is craftable. Its catalyst, Whispered Breathing, also comes from The Whisper.

• Whispered Breathing (catalyst). Aim without firing for a brief moment, and you get bonus range and precision damage while you stay zoomed.
• Field Prep. More ammo generation, plus faster reload, stow and ready speed while you crouch.
• No Distractions. Aim for a short time, and flinch goes down.
• Enlightened Action. Dealing damage improves reload speed and handling.

Field Prep, No Distractions and Enlightened Action unlock as crafting options after clears on Master difficulty or higher. Reshape the rifle to slot the one you want.

Whisper of the Worm is an Exotic Solar sniper rifle that uses Heavy ammo.

Its intrinsic, White Nail, gives higher base precision damage. Land 3 precision hits in quick succession, and the magazine refills.

That loop suits long boss damage phases. The rifle keeps firing without a reload while your hits land.

Whisper of the Worm arrived in 2018 with Warmind. When Io left the game in 2020, the rifle moved to the Monument to Lost Lights.

The Whisper came back as a remade mission with Into the Light in April 2024.

Update 9.7.0 on 9 June 2026 moved The Whisper into Pinnacle Ops for Monument of Triumph. The rifle now drops on completion, and the secrets still count for Triumphs.
