Season 2 Is Live: What's Open Now and What's Still Coming
The season is live. Midnight Season 2 started Tuesday, August 18 in NA — Wednesday the 19th on EU realms, which run a day behind on reset — one week after Patch 12.1 Curse of Ula'tek went live on August 11. Season 1 closed at the August 11 maintenance, so Cutting Edge, Ahead of the Curve and Season 1 Mythic+ have been locked since then, with the M+/PvP percentile cutoffs frozen at that moment. Since season start you have: the Venomous Abyss on Normal, Heroic and Mythic plus Raid Finder Wing 1, Mythic+ Season 2 keystones, rated PvP, Bountiful Delves and Coffer Keys, and Mythic 0 on a daily reset.
What is open now versus what is still on the calendar:

| Venomous Abyss raid | Normal, Heroic, Mythic, Raid Finder Wing 1 — all live since Aug 18 | RF Wing 2 + Story Mode week of Aug 25 · Wing 3 week of Sep 1 · Wing 4 week of Sep 8 |
| Dungeons | Mythic+ Season 2 live (8-dungeon pool incl. Altar of Fangs); Mythic 0 on daily reset | — |
| PvP | PvP Season 2 ladder live | — |
| Delves | Higher Nemesis tier, Bountiful Delves and Keys live | — |
| Prey (Coiled Isle) | Nightmare and Curse of the Isle live | — |

| Great Vault | S2 gear claimable; first full S2 vault pays out Aug 25 from the opening lockout's activity | Week 8+: extra weekly Voidcore in Silvermoon |

The Venomous Abyss: Season 2's 8-Boss Raid
Season 2's raid is
The Venomous Abyss — Amani / serpent-loa themed under the Coiled Isle, ending on Ula'tek. Mythic clear awards the Primeval Skyfriend mount.
| # | Boss | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Nek'zali the Soulcoiler | Opener |
| 2 | Entombed Sentinels | |
| 3 | The Lost Explorers | |
| 4 | Vashnik the Malignant | |
| 5 | Sszorak | |
| 6 | The Twin Fangs | |
| 7 | The Coiled Altar | Penultimate — Myth 9/6 track drops |
| 8 | Ula'tek | Final · Mythic mount |
Gearing changes shipping with the raid (PTR / Blizzard notes):
- Great Vault raid rewards buffed a full track: LFR → Champion, Normal → Hero, Heroic → Myth 1/6, Mythic vault → Myth 6/6; Very Rare + last two bosses → Myth 9-equivalent.
- Bonus rolls cheaper: raid rolls cost 1 Nebulous Voidcore (was 2); token vendor on Great Vault immediately; Week 8+ weekly roll in Silvermoon.
- Catalyzed items keep cantrips (and inherit secondaries).
- Later: Ascendant Venomstones on weapons, trinkets, and necklaces.
Net effect: a Heroic clear each lockout feeds Myth-track vault slots at the weekly reset — the fastest gear in the season right now. Normal, Heroic and Mythic all opened together on August 18 — there was no Heroic-only week — so every difficulty has been live and bookable since day one: the Venomous Abyss raid run for Normal and Heroic, the Mythic clear for the Myth-track vault and the mount, or just the Ula'tek kill if the rest of the tier is already handled. Self-play, loot on you.
Altar of Fangs and the Full Season 2 Mythic+ Rotation
New dungeon:
Altar of Fangs (Rav'i → The Writhing Coil → Zul'jan). It entered the game at Heroic and Mythic 0 with the August 11 patch; since season start on August 18 it runs in Mythic+ Season 2, and Mythic 0 is on a daily reset.
Confirmed 8-dungeon Season 2 pool (Blizzard + Wowhead):
| Dungeon | Category | Origin | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Altar of Fangs | Midnight · New | 12.1 | |
| Murder Row | Midnight | S1 unused | |
| Den of Nalorakk | Midnight | S1 unused | |
| The Blinding Vale | Midnight | S1 unused | |
| Voidscar Arena | Midnight | S1 unused | |
| Kings' Rest | Legacy | Battle for Azeroth | |
| Ruby Life Pools | Legacy | Dragonflight | |
| Temple of Sethraliss | Legacy | Battle for Azeroth |
Season mounts: Breath of Blight (Keystone Master ~2,000) · Breath of Ruin (Keystone Legend ~3,000) — two mounts on the Season 2 ladder, not three; the rest of it pays in titles and feats, listed in full below. Cone/line abilities get clearer precast telegraphs across the pool.
The two BfA returns are the early-season wild cards for most 2026 rosters — routes are still settling in live keys. Crest/vault math still matches our Mythic+ guide; M+ carries cover KSM→Legend pushes.
See Venomous Abyss runs →Normal, Heroic and Mythic have been open since August 18. A Heroic clear each lockout feeds Myth-track vault slots at the weekly reset — the fastest gear in the season. Self-play, loot on you.
The Coiled Isle, Lairs, and Season 2 Delves
The fog east of Zul'Aman lifts to reveal
the Coiled Isle: serpent-themed outdoor zone built around Vaults of Atal'Utek (public events → boss), the zone talent tree Altar of Corrosion, rare-elite Curse Surges, and tortollan rep (Captain Tokka) for Cursed Fishing.
- Lairs — instanced world bosses, Normal → Flexible Mythic (15–25). First: The Tidebound Grotto vs Nymrissa Wavecaller. Counts toward Great Vault Raids.
- Delves — The Ring of Glory, Gnarldor Isle, Nemesis Venomfall Deeps (Azta'rec). Bountiful + the top Nemesis tier are live since season start. Solo Nemesis mount: Apophic Soul Crusher. See our Delves guide.
- Prey Season 2 — new affixes/hunts on the Coiled Isle; weekly hunt cap raised to 15; Corrosive Soul powers for world content only (not dungeons/raids).
Gear Reset, the Pre-Season Week, and Season 2 Rating Targets
Season 2 is a full seasonal reset: new item-level bands, new crest tiers, new tier sets for every spec, and a new PvP season. It rolled out in two distinct weeks — the pre-season week first, then the season proper from August 18:
Pre-season week (Aug 11-17, done). Mythic 0 ran on a weekly lockout at 292 item level, Delves were capped with no Bountiful, and there were no keystones, no rated PvP and no raid. If you banked vault credit that week, it paid out in gear you claimed at the August 18 reset.
Season proper, live since August 18. Keystones and Mythic+ are open, Mythic 0 is on a daily lockout, rated PvP is running, the Venomous Abyss is open, and Bountiful Delves and Coffer Keys are dropping. The “??” Nemesis difficulty is up, and clearing it before the August 25 reset awards Fabled Let Me Solo Him: Azta’rec — a week-one-only feat whose window closes at that reset. Nightmare Prey awards Season 2 Champion gear.
Two Great Vault details worth planning around: Nebulous Voidcores are a Great Vault reward from this very first week of Season 2 — they are not held back to week two — and a raid bonus roll costs one Voidcore instead of two, with an extra weekly Voidcore in Silvermoon from week eight. The first S2 vault, claimable at the August 25 reset, caps the World row at Champion 3/6; later vaults go to Hero 1/6.
What each Mythic+ rating actually pays out in Season 2
| Rating | Achievement | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| 1500 | Keystone Conqueror: Season 2 | Title: “the Venomous” |
| 2000 | Keystone Master: Season 2 | Breath of Blight mount |
| 3000 | Keystone Legend: Season 2 | Breath of Ruin mount |
| Top 1% | Venomous Champion | Feat of Strength, region-ranked |
| Top 0.1% | Venomous Hero | Title: “the Venomous Hero” |
Separately, timing a Mythic 10 in each of the eight dungeons unlocks that dungeon’s teleport — the one reward that keeps paying every future season. On the PvP side the ladder runs Combatant I through Elite for gear pieces, with Gladiator requiring 50 3v3 wins at Elite rank for the Venomous Gladiator’s Goredrake. Rating targets: arena boosts from day one of the season, and PvP Training Grounds expand to Arenas vs. Bots in 12.1.
Season 1 Is Closed — What Carried Over and What Didn't
Season 1 ended at the August 11 patch maintenance — a week before the season started, which is the part most pages got wrong. If you did not have it before realms went down, it is gone: the three Midnight Season 1 Ahead of the Curve achievements, Cutting Edge and the Ashes of Belo'ren Mythic mount, Season 1 Keystone Master and Keystone Legend, and the Season 1 rated PvP titles and mounts. The Mythic+ and PvP percentile cutoffs were locked at the same moment.
| Carries into Season 2 | Does not |
|---|---|
| Achievements, titles and mounts you already earned | Season 1 Mythic+ rating — the ladder resets to zero |
| Your current gear, until Season 2 item levels pass it in week one | Season 1 Nebulous Voidcores — converted to gold at season end |
| Dungeon teleports from timed Mythic 10s, permanently | Season 1 crest tiers and upgrade tracks |
| Great Vault progress banked in the pre-season week — it paid out in the August 18 vault | Season 1 rated PvP rating |
The pre-season week did its job: Altar of Fangs and the new rotation were learnable at Heroic and Mythic 0 before they became keys that count. Now they do count — the two Battle for Azeroth returns, Kings' Rest and Temple of Sethraliss, are exactly where live routes are still settling and pug keys are dying in the early weeks. Raid detail for the tier ahead: Midnight raid guide; Season 2 prep is bookable on Midnight services.
When Does Season 2 End? The Patch 12.2 / Season 3 Watch
No official end date. Season 2 runs until Patch 12.2 opens Season 3, and Blizzard has announced neither. The expansion's own 8-week patch cadence projects 12.2 around late January 2027 (community estimate — not official), which gives Season 2 a roughly five-month runway from its August 18 start.
What that means in practice: this is a long season. There is time to finish a full Myth-track set and push rating in both ladders — pacing beats panic. The real signal to watch is the 12.2 PTR: Blizzard's 12.1 files already point 12.2 at the World Core finale with Xal'atath, and a PTR build is the first hard evidence of a date. Full patch calendar, sources and the Season 3 window: Midnight release date & patch calendar.
Buy vs Grind in Season 2: Where Carries Actually Matter
Grind it yourself if you have a stable roster and 6+ hours/week — a fresh raid tier with your guild is the best version of WoW. Where a carry is the rational play right now, in the live season (same pattern as S1):
- Early Heroic Venomous Abyss clears — every Heroic lockout feeds Myth-track vault gear at the weekly reset; an early full clear is worth more this season than it was in S1.
- BfA legacy keys — Kings' Rest + Temple of Sethraliss at high keys will pug-kill until routes settle.
- Altar of Fangs weeklies — new-dungeon demand spikes hardest month one.
LFCarry runs are self-play by default. Market context: carry services guide.
