Launch Recap: What Midnight Shipped With
Midnight raised the level cap to 90, rebuilt
Quel'Thalas / Silvermoon as a shared hub, and opened four zones: Eversong Woods, Zul'Aman, Harandar, and
Voidstorm — plus Arator's Journey as a campaign path.
Player Housing — neighborhoods, décor, Endeavors (Housing Early Access began Dec 2, 2025 for Midnight buyers).
Haranir allied race — unlocked via the Harandar campaign; joinable by Horde or Alliance.- Devourer Demon Hunter spec + Void Elf Demon Hunters.
- Eight new dungeons at launch; Mythic 0 preseason unlocked the week of March 3.
New Delves with companion Valeera Sanguinar; seasonal Delve track from Season 1.
Editions still matter for cosmetics and the Epic head start only — Base (~$49.99) already includes every prior expansion. Full expansion timeline context: our WoW expansions in order guide.
Season 1 Content Calendar (What Already Happened)
Midnight Season 1 opened March 17, 2026 with the first raid wing and the Delve / PvP seasons. Raid story beats:

Where We Are Now (Late August 2026): Season 2 Is Live
The live game is
Patch 12.1 Curse of Ula’tek, which shipped on 11 August 2026. Season 1 closed at that morning’s maintenance — its Ahead of the Curve, Cutting Edge and seasonal Mythic+/PvP rewards can no longer be earned — and Season 2 opened with the 18 August reset, 19 August on EU realms. The Venomous Abyss raid and the new Mythic+ rotation are live now.
| Fact | State | Source | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Current expansion | Midnight (12.0) — live since Mar 2 | Blizzard News | |
| Current patch | 12.1 Curse of Ula’tek | Blizzard / live clients | |
| Current season | Season 2 (opened Aug 18; Aug 19 EU) | Blizzard Season 2 announcement | |
| Season 2 / 12.1 | Live — 12.1 shipped 11 Aug 2026; Season 2 opened 18 Aug (19 Aug EU) | Blizzard PTR + editorial |
That window has closed: Season 1 ended at the 11 August maintenance, so AotC ×3, Cutting Edge / Ashes of Belo'ren, Keystone Master/Legend and the rated PvP rewards are no longer obtainable. Season 2 goals are open now and bookable on Midnight services.
Season 2 Is Live: What Patch 12.1 Shipped
Patch 12.1 Curse of Ula’tek went live on 11 August 2026, and the season opened Tuesday 18 August in North America and Wednesday 19 August on EU realms. Both dates were first-party — Blizzard’s article is titled “Season 2 Begins August 18” on the NA site and “Begins 19 August” on the EU one.
Venomous Abyss — new 8-boss raid (final: Ula'tek).
The Coiled Isle — new outdoor zone east of Zul'Aman, plus Altar of Fangs dungeon.- Full 8-dungeon M+ pool, new tier sets, new PvP season, Lairs, and a gear reset.
All four raid difficulties opened together on 18 August; LFR wings unlock over the following three weeks. Deep dive (boss list, M+ pool, S1 closeout checklist): Midnight Season 2 guide.
When Is Midnight Season 3? (Patch 12.2)
Not announced. As of August 21, 2026 Blizzard has published no date for patch 12.2 or Midnight Season 3 — but the expansion’s own patch rhythm makes the window fairly predictable, and Blizzard’s game files have already spoiled what 12.2 is about.
The cadence math. Midnight has shipped a patch every 8 weeks: 12.0.5 on April 21, 12.0.7 on June 16, 12.1 on August 11. Projected forward that gives 12.1.5 around early October, 12.1.7 around early December, and patch 12.2 — Season 3 — around late January 2027 (Icy Veins’ cadence estimate is January 26, 2027). That is a community projection, not an official date.
What 12.2 actually is. Blizzard leaked it themselves: 12.1’s files describe a cinematic in which Xal’atath heads for the World Core (the “Radiant Core”), which is where Midnight’s final major patch plays out. Season 3 closes the expansion before The Last Titan.
What that means for you now. Season 1 ran roughly 21 weeks (Mar 17 → Aug 11). If Season 2 gets the same runway, you have about five months — the full push window is now. Parking goals “for Season 3” means sitting out the freshest gear ladder of the expansion; S2 rewards will lock at the 12.2 maintenance exactly the way S1’s locked on August 11.
What to watch for the official date: the 12.2 PTR going up (expected around December — each Midnight patch has hit PTR ~6–8 weeks before ship) and Blizzard’s next roadmap update. We update this page when either lands.

After Midnight: The Last Titan Outlook
The Last Titan is announced as the Worldsoul Saga finale — a reforged Northrend. There is no release date (Warcraft Wiki lists Release = TBD; earliest community read is 2027+).
- What is confirmed: setting (updated Northrend), saga finale role, Blizzard has discussed the world redesign publicly (Blizzard Watch / Wowhead developer coverage).
- What is not confirmed: year, season window, level cap, systems, or launch edition details.
- Cadence read (estimate only): The War Within (Aug 2024) → Midnight (Mar 2026) was ~18 months. A similar gap puts The Last Titan in late 2027–2028 — not official.
Until Blizzard announces a window, treat every calendar claim as speculation. Midnight itself still has Season 2 running right now and a final Season 3 (patch 12.2) ahead of it.
Is It Worth Returning to WoW Right Now?
S Yes if you want a fresh tier from day one — Season 2 opened 18 August with the Venomous Abyss on Normal, Heroic and Mythic together and a new eight-dungeon Mythic+ rotation. Season 1’s AotC, Cutting Edge and seasonal M+/PvP rewards closed at the 11 August maintenance and cannot be earned now.
A Yes if you skipped launch and just want current endgame — Patch 12.0.7 catch-up (Omnium Folio / systems), Housing, and a mature S1 meta make returning easier than week one. Level 80→90 or a boost into Midnight zones is the usual path; see leveling carries.
B Wait only if you want the meta to settle — the first two weeks of a season are the most volatile for spec balance and route knowledge. If your goal is “new raid week one,” that week is 18 August.
C Not ideal if you only care about The Last Titan — that expansion has no date; you would skip months of Midnight content for an unknown window.
