WoW Housing Guide: How to Unlock Your House in Midnight

Housing needs the Midnight expansion on your account. The quest A House For You starts it. The quest pops up the 1st time you log in with Midnight.

1. Log in and accept A House For You.
2. Pick a neighborhood. Founder's Point is the Alliance neighborhood. Razorwind Shores is the Horde neighborhood.
3. Walk to an empty plot. Click the Cornerstone next to it.
4. Buy the house on that plot. The 1st house of your Warband is free.
5. Pick a look and a size for the house. Then start placing decor.

Housing opened in early access on 2 December 2025 with patch 11.2.7. Patch 12.1.5 is the live patch today.

There are 2 neighborhoods. Each Warband can own 1 house in each of them.

The smugglers in each neighborhood sell the stock of the other neighborhood's vendors. You never need a 2nd faction for a decor item from the other side.

Neighborhoods come in 3 kinds. Public neighborhoods are run by the servers and put random players together. A guild master can open a guild neighborhood for the guild. A charter group can open a private neighborhood of its own.

You can move your house to another plot later. The move costs a small fee in gold.

Your house has its own level. The cap is level 12 since patch 12.1 on 11 August 2026.

House XP comes from 2 places. You earn it the 1st time you learn a new piece of decor. You also earn it from Neighborhood Endeavors, the shared tasks of your neighborhood.

Each house level raises how much decor you can place inside and outside.

Level 12 unlocks large exteriors. They come in the Human, Night Elf, Orc and Blood Elf styles.

Decor comes from almost every part of the game. The decor list in your house sorts it by source.

The neighborhood vendors sell for gold. Many other cities and zones have decor vendors of their own.

Dyes change the color of your decor. Patch 12.1 rebuilt the dye system.

All dyes now sit in 9 dye families. Each family has 1 base dye. A base dye lets you use every color in its family.

Patch 12.1 also added 15 new colors.

A crafter with Alchemy or Inscription makes dyes at the Dye Station in your neighborhood. The crafter turns herbs straight into dyes.

The old pigments are gone. Your dyes now fit in 9 bag slots.

A blueprint saves a room or a whole house. You can export it and import it again. Patch 12.1 added blueprints.

A blueprint lists the decor and the dyes it needs. Since patch 12.1.5 the list shows only the dyes you still have to use.

Patch 12.1.5 went live on 13 October 2026 in the Americas and on 14 October in Europe. It made 3 more blueprint and editing changes.

• A stairwell exports together with every stairwell room linked above or below it.
• A button in Housing Controls opens your blueprint collection.
• Page Up and Page Down move between floors in floorplan edit mode.

The 1st house of your Warband is free. A 2nd house costs 1,000 gold.

The neighborhood decor vendors take gold. Each new piece of decor you buy still gives house XP the 1st time you learn it.

Patch 12.1.5 cut the material cost of decor crafted with the pre-Midnight professions.
