Hell's Legacy is Season 15. It started on 15 September 2026 with patch 3.2.1. Patch 3.2.4 followed on 28 October 2026 and is the live build. Season 16 is still undated.

Infernal Hordes is a wave-based endgame activity in the Burning Hells. You open a run with an Infernal Compass. You clear timed waves, collect Burning Aether and pick 1 Infernal Offer after each wave. The run ends with a boss fight, and the Aether you carry buys your rewards.

How to unlock Infernal Hordes in Diablo 4

  1. Go to Zarbinzet in Hawezar. The Eyes of the Enemy starts there. It is the 1st quest of the Infernal Hordes questline.
  2. Finish The Eyes of the Enemy. Locran then gives you the next quest, Inside the Black Tomb.
  3. Finish Inside the Black Tomb. The last quest, To the Edge of the Abyss, follows.
  4. Finish To the Edge of the Abyss. It opens the Infernal Hordes and gives you your 1st Infernal Compass.
  5. Use the Compass. It opens the way into the Burning Hells, where the waves begin.

You do the questline once per account. After that, every character opens Infernal Hordes with a Compass.

The Infernal Hordes have no fixed spot on the map. The Compass in your inventory is the entrance. Short on time? A PRO can run your Infernal Hordes on your account, from Torment 1 to Torment 4.

Infernal Compasses: waves and where they drop

The Compass sets the length of the run. A longer run gives you more waves to collect Aether.

Compasses drop as you play the endgame. Helltide chests, Tree of Whispers caches and Nightmare Dungeons all drop them.

Save the 10-wave Compasses for runs where you want Bartuc. More waves mean more Aether by the end.

How a run works: waves, Infernal Offers and Burning Aether

Every wave lasts 60 seconds. You kill demons and clear Aether events, and they drop Burning Aether.

  • Aether Fiends and Aether Lords drop Aether when they die.
  • Soulspires pay out when you kill enemies inside their ring.
  • Aetheric Masses break fast and drop Aether.

After each wave you pick 1 of 3 Infernal Offers. Each offer has a boon and a bane. The boon raises your Aether or your power, and the bane makes the next waves harder.

Offers stack for the whole run. The offer you take after wave 1 still applies in wave 10. Pick offers that feed the same Aether event, so the bonuses multiply.

Chaos Waves sometimes show up among the offers. They swap the next wave for a special encounter with a larger Aether payout.

Burning Aether exists only inside the run. Spend it on the Spoils at the end, or it is gone.

Fell Council or Bartuc, and the Spoils of Hell

After the last wave you pick the boss. The Fell Council sends 3 of its 5 members at you, picked at random. Bartuc, Lord of Chaos, costs 666 Burning Aether to challenge.

Bartuc gives more gear and materials than the Fell Council. The Spoils of Hell stay open after either fight.

Spoils of HellAether costWhat you get
Spoils of Greater Equipment400Legendary gear
Spoils of MaterialsAll Aether leftObducite and Gem Fragments
Spoils of GoldAll Aether leftGold

A run that ends with 1,066 Aether pays for both Bartuc and the Spoils of Greater Equipment. That is 666 for the boss plus 400 for the chest.

Infernal Hordes in Season 15: Diablo's Splinter of Terror

Season 15 gives you 3 Splinters of Evil, 1 for each Prime Evil. You collect them in the Seasonal Questline and carry 1 at a time.

Diablo's Splinter of Terror changes Helltide and Infernal Hordes. Its reputation track adds more Aether to your Infernal Hordes runs. Carry it if Infernal Hordes is your main farm.

Mephisto's Splinter of Hatred changes the Pit and Nightmare Dungeons instead. The Diablo 4 Pit guide covers that route.
