Apex Legends Ranks Explained: Ranked System, Tiers, RP Ladder & Rank Distribution (Season 30)

Updated 2026-09-14 · 14 min read · by LFCarry PRO team

Apex Legends Ranked has eight tiers — Rookie, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master and Apex Predator — four divisions in each up to Diamond, an entry fee you pay in RP before every match and a top-750-per-platform Predator seat that moves every hour. This page is the whole ranked system on one screen, every number read from EA Help and EA’s own guides on September 13, 2026: the RP to enter each tier and each division, entry costs from 0 to 90 RP, how kills and placement are scored, how to unlock ranked with the Road to Ranked challenges, what the split reset does to your RP, the season rewards and Auras, today’s Predator cutoff, and where Season 30 players actually sit — Gold holds 36.39% of the ladder. Tap your rank in the chat frame above and the assistant shows the climb from there.

Apex Legends Ranks Explained: Ranked System, Tiers, RP Ladder & Rank Distribution (Season 30)

All Apex Legends ranks in order: eight tiers, four divisions, the RP to reach each

Apex Legends Ranked has eight tiers — Rookie, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master and Apex Predator — and every tier up to Diamond is split into four divisions, IV (lowest) to I (highest). Master has no divisions, and Apex Predator is not a tier you reach at a fixed RP: it is the top 750 Master players on your platform, so its floor moves with the ladder every hour (EA Help, How Apex Legends Ranked works, «Updated 1 month ago» when read on September 13, 2026; EA’s The Road to Ranked guide, read the same day). The table prints the RP you need to enter each tier, the RP each division step costs inside it, the entry fee Ranked deducts before every match, and the Aura colour that shows your current rank in a match.

Where each figure comes from. The per-division steps, the entry costs and the Aura colours are EA Help’s own lists. The tier floors are EA Help’s split-two reset values with the «+250 demotion protection» EA prints next to them taken off: Silver IV 3,250 − 250 = 3,000, Gold IV 5,750 − 250 = 5,500, Platinum IV 8,750 − 250 = 8,500; Bronze IV is printed bare at 1,000, and Platinum III / II / I are printed bare at 9,250 / 10,000 / 11,000 — exactly 8,500 + 750 + 750 + 1,000, so Diamond IV is 11,000 + 1,000 = 12,000 and Master is 12,000 + 4 × 1,000 = 16,000. One seam in EA’s page, flagged rather than smoothed over: its per-division list sums Silver to 5,250 for Gold IV (3,000 + 500 + 500 + 500 + 750), 250 RP short of the reset-derived 5,500. We print the reset-derived floors because they are EA’s absolute numbers; the community wiki (Apex Legends Wiki — Ranked Leagues, read September 13, 2026) prints 5,250 for Gold IV and 8,250 for Platinum IV with an older entry-cost set (Bronze 5, Gold 35, Platinum 45). Your Ranked tab shows the exact floor under your badge — that number wins over both of us.

Rows marked bare above (Bronze IV, Platinum III–I) are printed by EA as they stand; every other division figure is the tier floor plus EA’s per-division steps. Two more EA rules that change how you read the table: once you leave Rookie you can never be placed back into it, and your RP is per platform — a PC account and a console account of the same player progress separately (EA Help — Cross Progression; different generations of one console, PS4 and PS5 for example, count as the same platform).

How the Apex ranked system works: entry cost, RP scoring, matchmaking and Ranked Ladders

Everything in this section is EA Help’s current description of Ranked (How Apex Legends Ranked works, read September 13, 2026); EA warns that scoring «might change with each new Season», so the Season 30 Marked patch notes and the Split 2 notes are the pages to re-read when a number here surprises you.

Entry cost: you pay RP to queue

Every Ranked match deducts an entry fee before you drop — 0 RP in Rookie, 10 Bronze, 20 Silver, 38 Gold, 48 Platinum, 65 Diamond, 90 Master and Predator — and you earn it back when you finish in the top half of the lobby. A poor match therefore ends with fewer points than you started with, which is why a Diamond player who goes 0 kills / 15th place loses 65 RP flat.

How scoring works: placement, eliminations, bonuses

  • Placement — your team’s finish out of the 20 squads is the base of the score; the higher you place, the more RP, and the more each of your kills is worth.
  • Eliminations — a kill or an assist counts as one kill; a squad-mate’s kill you did no damage to counts as half (a «participation»). After eight kills in a match the value of every further kill, assist and participation is halved.
  • Bonuses — killing a higher-ranked player adds +15% one tier up, +25% two, +35% three, +50% four or more on top of that kill’s value; a streak of top-five finishes pays +10 RP on the second, +20 on the third, +30 on the fourth, +40 on the fifth and every game after, and resets the moment you place sixth or lower.
  • No RP for heals or revives — only kills, assists and placement.

Matchmaking and your first rank

Matchmaking is based on your current RP, and the lobby gets harder as the RP rises. Your starting tier is not chosen by you: the first time you play Ranked it comes from your hidden skill value in Unranked Trios; at the start of every later season it comes from your Ranked matchmaking rating, and EA’s Road to Ranked guide says you play 10 placement matches before the badge is shown. In lobbies that pass a threshold of Diamond, Master and Predator players Ranked switches from the dropship to Drop Zones: your squad is assigned a point of interest before legend select and loot is spread across POIs so every squad lands on a fair start.

Playing ranked with friends

Every player in a premade squad — duos and trios alike — must be within two ranks of the others, or matchmaking fails; the squad is then matched on the highest RP in the party. EA’s example: a Bronze can queue with Rookie, Bronze, Silver and Gold, not with Platinum or higher. EA also notes these rules change during temporary tests — in Season 29 it ran «1-Tier Premade Restrictions» and «Diamond+ Solo-Queue-Only», and the Season 30 notes say the results and next steps are still being written up.

Ranked Ladders

Alongside the tier ladder, EA runs Ranked Ladders: smaller leaderboards of up to 100 players grouped by hidden skill. EA Help describes them as running every week from Tuesday to Sunday; the Season 30 notes say the ladders were «extended to 5 days» and print the season’s calendar — Ladder 1 August 11–16, Ladder 2 August 18–23, Ladder 3 August 25–30, Ladder 4 September 1–6, Ladder 5 September 8–13, 2026. You need five Ranked matches in the window and cross-play switched on; your score is your five best RP results, and the rewards come by finishing tier: Tier 1 = top 10% of your leaderboard, Tier 2 = top 10–30%, Tier 3 = top 30–50%, Tier 4 = the bottom half.

How to unlock ranked in Apex: Level 20 and the Road to Ranked challenges

Two conditions, both from EA: a new account must reach account Level 20 and complete all three sets of Road to Ranked challenges; accounts that already had Ranked access before Road to Ranked launched keep it (EA Help and The Road to Ranked, both read September 13, 2026).

The Road to Ranked challenges

  • Three sets, all mandatory. EA Help: «Road to Ranked has three sets of challenges. To join Ranked, you need to complete all challenges.» Progress is shown in your Challenges tab in game.
  • What they ask for. EA’s guide: the challenges «focus on surviving rounds, class perks like Assault Bins and Survey Beacons, and more» — they teach the loop Ranked rewards (survive the ring, use your class perk, place) rather than kills.
  • Core modes only. «You need to complete them in Core mode, other modes like Wildcard and Mixtape don’t contribute to Road to Ranked Challenges.» Queue Trios or Duos Battle Royale; a night of Mixtape moves nothing.
  • Then ten placement matches. Before your first badge appears you play 10 placement games that calibrate your start on the ladder — EA’s own advice: «don’t read too much into early results».

EA does not publish the individual challenge list on either page, and we will not quote one from memory; the three sets read left to right in your Challenges tab. If a friend wants to queue Ranked with you, every member of the squad needs their own unlock — Ranked access is per account, and the two-rank premade rule above applies from the first match.

Apex ranked reset and split: what happens to your RP

Ranked resets twice a season: once when the season launches and once at the announced mid-season split, which EA calls «split two» (EA Help, read September 13, 2026). The two resets work differently.

Season start. Your RP is not cut by a formula — you are «automatically assigned a rank tier that closely matches your skill level based on your Ranked matchmaking rating (MMR)»; a first-time Ranked player’s Unranked Trios MMR is used instead.

Split two. A fixed table, printed by EA:

Where you finish split oneWhere split two starts youRP after the reset
BronzeBronze IV → IBronzeBronze IV1,000
SilverSilver IV → ISilverSilver IV3,250 (+250 demotion protection)
GoldGold IV → IGoldGold IV5,750 (+250 demotion protection)
PlatinumPlatinum IV → IPlatinumPlatinum IV8,750 (+250 demotion protection)
DiamondDiamond IV and IIIPlatinumPlatinum III9,250
DiamondDiamond II and IPlatinumPlatinum II10,000
MasterMaster and Apex PredatorPlatinumPlatinum I11,000

Read it as a soft reset: a Master drops to Platinum I and keeps 11,000 RP, a Diamond I keeps 10,000 in Platinum II, and nobody below Diamond loses a tier — Bronze through Platinum restart at division IV of the same tier with 250 RP of protection above the floor. Rookie is not in the table because you cannot be placed back into it once you have left.

Where Season 30 stands. Marked went live on August 4, 2026 (Marked patch notes, August 3, 2026); its Ranked Ladders 1–5 ran from August 11 to September 13, 2026 «later this split». EA’s Marked Midseason Designer’s Notes (September 10, 2026) say the full Split 2 patch notes drop on September 14, 2026 with the 30.1 update. The reset day itself is not printed on either page, so we do not print one — the Ranked tab in game shows the split countdown, and we will quote EA’s date here the day the Split 2 notes carry it.

Apex ranked rewards: season badges, animated badges and Auras

Ranked rewards arrive at the start of the next season, for the highest rank you reached in either split — so a Diamond in split one who finishes split two in Platinum still gets the Diamond reward (EA Help, read September 13, 2026). The badge comes in two versions: match your first-split rank (or beat it) in split two and the season-end badge is animated; finish lower and you get the normal version. Rookie counts too — once you leave it, rewards follow the highest tier you achieve during the season.

Auras are the in-match rank cosmetic: equip one in the Legend Locker and it shows the rank you hold right now in the current season — never a past peak. EA’s colours: Rookie gray · Bronze bronze · Silver silver · Gold gold · Platinum teal · Diamond blue · Master purple · Apex Predator red.

EA Help does not list the season’s specific reward items (badge art, trails, charms) — those appear in the season’s own notes and in the Ranked tab. What is stable across seasons is the rule above: highest tier of either split, animated badge for holding it twice.

Highest rank in Apex: Master, Apex Predator and today’s top-750 cutoff

The highest rank in Apex Legends is Apex Predator, and it is the one rank you cannot reach with RP alone. EA Help: «Once you’re Master rank, you can earn the title of Apex Predator. Apex Predators are the top 750 players per platform in the Master rank.» Master starts at 16,000 RP; Predator starts wherever the 750th-best Master on your platform sits, and that line moves all day as they play.

What that line was on September 13, 2026, from Apex Legends Status — How many points to reach Predator (updated hourly; «current split» board):

PlatformPredator cutoff (RP)Change in 24 hMasters + Predators tracked
PCPC38,422▲ 60913,609
PlayStationPlayStation26,182▲ 4895,761
XboxXbox21,735▲ 2872,404

Three things the table says. The same red badge is a different climb per platform — on September 13, 2026 a PC Predator needed 12,240 RP more than an Xbox Predator (38,422 vs 21,735), because RP is per platform and the PC ladder is the deepest. The cutoff was still rising on all three platforms that day (▲609 / ▲489 / ▲287 in 24 hours), which is what a split looks like a few days before it ends — Masters keep playing and the 750th seat keeps moving up. And the «Masters + Predators» count is ALS’s own estimate from players in its database (the site says the true number of Masters is likely higher), so read it as the size of the room, not a census. ALS also lists a Switch board, where the cutoff sat at the 16,000 Master floor with 553 tracked players.

Above Master there is no division to climb — the composer on this page is the honest next step: tell the assistant your platform and RP and it reads the live cutoff distance. The full daily history of the cutoff and of the Masters count is on the ALS page linked above; our live share of players per rank comes from the same database and feeds the distribution below.

Apex rank distribution: where players actually sit this season

Knowing the floors is half the picture; the other half is how many players sit on each rung. Respawn no longer publishes an end-of-season table, so the best public read is Esports Tales — Apex rank distribution for Season 30 / August 2026 (page modified August 12, 2026; sampled from Apex Legends Status, active players this season). This is the same table our chat frame draws above, and the same one our monthly Apex rank distribution page keeps with its history and the disagreeing samples.

Rank% of playersTop % (cumulative, same table)
RookieRookie1.25%top ~100%
BronzeBronze13.97%top 98.64% at Bronze IV
SilverSilver29.69%top 84.67% at Silver IV
GoldGold36.39%top 54.98% at Gold IV
PlatinumPlatinum15.55%top 18.59% at Platinum IV · Platinum I = top 4.83%
DiamondDiamond2.73%Diamond I = top 0.52%
MasterMaster0.05%top 0.31%
Apex PredatorApex Predator0.26%top 0.26%

How to read it. Gold is the mound — 36.39% of active ranked players, with Gold III alone at 11.21%, the busiest single division on the table. Silver and Gold together are two thirds of the ladder. Platinum IV already puts you in the top 18.59%, Platinum I in the top 4.83%, Diamond I in the top 0.52%. Master reads 0.05% on this sample and Predator 0.26% — Predator larger than Master because ALS knows every Predator (they are on the public leaderboard) but only the Masters in its own database; a Facebook graphic circulating the same month prints Predator 0.502% and Master 2.914% from a different sample, which we show as a disagreement on the distribution page rather than average in. Season 29’s June table on the same Esports Tales page read Master 3.20% / Predator 0.52% — a different split, a different curve, not to be mixed into this one.

What rank should you aim for — and the honest ways to get there

Put the two tables together and the common questions answer themselves. Is Gold good? It is the median: Gold IV is top 54.98%, so a Gold player is better than roughly half of everyone who queued Ranked this season, and the mound around you is why Gold lobbies feel crowded. Is Platinum good? Yes by the numbers — Platinum IV is top 18.59%, Platinum I top 4.83% — and it is where the entry fee (48 RP) starts to punish a careless drop. Is Diamond good? 2.73% of players; Diamond I is the top half-percent. Anything above that is a ladder of a few thousand names per platform.

A realistic goal is one tier above where you finished the last split, sized in RP from the floors: Gold IV → Platinum IV is 3,000 RP, Platinum IV → Diamond IV is 3,500, Diamond IV → Master is 4,000. Tap your rank in the chat frame at the top of this page and the assistant lays out the honest ways to cover that distance, side by side — time, cost, risk and what stays with you. Those ways, in the order we would take them:

  • Solo, with the right legends. Free, slow, and everything you learn stays. The pick that climbs changes with the rank band — Octane leads Bronze, Pathfinder leads Gold and Platinum, Axle and Loba own Master and Predator — the Season 30 tier list has the board by band with the pick rates behind it.
  • A stable trio. The two-rank premade rule means your teammates must sit within two tiers of you; where Apex players actually find them — the official Discord, r/ApexLFG, the tracker.gg board — is in our Apex LFG guide, and the Teammate search plan does the posting for you: up to three candidate intros in 24 hours, matched to your rank band, legends, language and region.
  • A verified Master in your own trio. The Squad Trial is one 45-minute ranked session with a verified Master pro queueing beside you, on your own account — the first 15 minutes are a test game you can leave. The Pro track is the same idea over a whole split: eight hours with a Master pro (six and a half with a Predator) as 60-minute sessions, clips and a written review after each. You keep your hands on your account and the calls you copy stay with you.
  • 1:1 coaching for the aim and positioning problems no rank climb fixes — booked from the same plan pages or by asking the assistant.
  • Booking the climb itself. The storefront’s Apex Legends Rank Boost page prices the exact from → to you pick and states its own requirements; read them before you book, because EA’s premade and account rules above apply to how any climb is delivered.

Prices live on the plan and offer pages, not here — plans are list prices and storefront-wide sales do not apply to them. Whatever you pick, the assistant carries your rank, platform and goal from this page into the order.
