LoL rank system: how LP, placements and queues work
Ranked in LoL runs on League Points (LP). You gain LP for a win and lose LP for a loss.
- Promotion: reach 100 LP and you move up 1 division. Extra LP carries over into the new division.
- New tier: 100 LP in division I takes you to division IV of the next tier, for example
Gold I to
Platinum IV. - Demotion: losing more LP than you have drops you 1 division. A tier drop puts you in division I of the tier below.
- Placements: new ranked players and every new ranked year start with 5 placement matches in each queue. A placement loss costs 0 LP.
- Solo/Duo and Flex: each queue keeps its own rank. Solo/Duo takes groups of 1 or 2. Flex takes groups of 1, 2, 3 or 5.
- Autofill: when you are autofilled, Aegis of Valor doubles the LP of a win.
- Decay:
Diamond and up bank days by playing ranked. Diamond banks 7 days a game, up to 28.
Master and up bank 1 day a game, up to 14. An empty bank costs 50 LP a day in Diamond and 75 LP a day from Master up.
How to unlock Ranked in LoL: level 30
Ranked Solo/Duo and Ranked Flex open when your account has all 3 of these:
- Level 30.
- At least 20 champions that you own.
- 10 normal games in Swiftplay or Normal Draft.
LoL account leveling takes a new account to level 30 with a PRO, so Ranked opens sooner.
LoL Season 3 2026: start date, end date and changes
Season 3 of the 2026 ranked year started on 29 July 2026 at 12pm local server time, with patch 26.15. Ranks and LP carried over from Season 2, so your climb continued where it stopped.
Season 3 is the last of the 3 seasons in the 2026 ranked year. The exact end date is not announced yet. Season 3 runs until the 2027 ranked year opens in January. Ranks reset when the new year begins, and every player plays 5 placement matches again.
What changed in LoL Season 3
Master duos: duo queue is back in Master, for partners close in rank.- Aegis of Valor: an autofilled win pays double LP.
- Victorious skin: the 15-win ranked mission refreshed at the season start. Wins in Solo/Duo, Flex or both count.
LoL ranked wins add wins toward the Victorious skin with a PRO, piloted or self-play.
How to climb in LoL Season 3
- Pick 1 queue for the season. Solo/Duo and Flex keep separate ranks, so put your games where you want the rank.
- Keep a small champion pool. Play 2 or 3 champions for each role you queue.
- Play your best role in placements. Your 5 placement matches set your starting rank for the year.
- Play autofill games to win. An autofilled win pays double LP.
- Review your losses. Watch the replay of a lost game before you queue again.
Stuck in 1 division? LoL win boosting adds 1 to 5 ranked wins with a PRO at any tier. LoL placement boosting gets you 1 to 5 placement wins with a PRO.
