How to complete The Drowned City in WoW Forever
The
Drowned City is 1 of the 9 new
dungeons of WoW Forever. It is an ancient troll city that has risen out of the sea off the coast of
Stranglethorn Vale.
Trolls and naga hold its streets, and a pirate ship lies wrecked among the ruins. The dungeon is tuned for levels 35 to 40.
Here is the run from the coast to the last boss:
- Take the
quest. Ancient Gurubashi Idol is a
Horde quest. It sends you into the city for a troll idol. - Swim to the entrance. The portal sits underwater, west of Grom'gol, in the Sunken Hollow by the island.
- Climb into the ruins. A cavern leads up a hill to the open-air city, where the path opens into a large central area.
- Kill Zul'Alai. The opening boss enrages near death and hits the whole group.
- Clear the rest of the city. Zin'aka, Var'Taka and Captain Dreadrise wait further in.

The
Drowned City stands on Gillijim's Isle, in the sea west of
Stranglethorn Vale. Blizzard built that island for the original game and cut it before release.
In Forever the island is back, with a ruined troll city on it. Its streets are above water, and only the way in lies below the waves.
Start from Grom'gol Base Camp on the
Stranglethorn coast and swim west. Past the Vile Reef, dive to the Sunken Hollow, a cave with the
dungeon portal inside.
The Drowned City bosses
4 bosses of The
Drowned City are confirmed by name. Zul'Alai and Zin'aka are the 2 fights groups know best.
| Boss | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Zul'Alai | The opening boss. He enrages near death, and his area hits strike the whole group. |
| Zin'aka | The 2nd boss, higher level than Zul'Alai and hard on the tank. |
| Var'Taka | An elite boss seen in the BlizzCon demo. |
| Captain Dreadrise | An elite boss seen in the BlizzCon demo. |
Zul'Alai
Zul'Alai hits hard all fight and harder at the end. Burn him fast and keep the group healed through his enrage.
Zin'aka
Zin'aka is the tank check of the
dungeon. Bring a tank with defensive cooldowns, and keep the healer's mana up for this pull.
Trash and packs: naga, makrura and risen trolls
The outer halls hold makrura. Deeper in, risen troll sentries guard the lower streets.
Naga come in tight packs, close to each other. A group with strong area damage clears them fast.
The same tight packs punish a careless pull. Mark 1 target to kill and 1 to crowd-control before each naga pack.
A
Mage's Polymorph, a
Druid's Roots or a
Hunter's trap keeps the extra caster out of the fight.
The Drowned City quests
Ancient Gurubashi Idol is the confirmed
Horde
quest of The
Drowned City. It asks you to recover a troll idol from the city.
Take it before you swim out, so the idol counts on your 1st clear.

Riverglades are the new questing zone for the same levels. Our WoW Forever quests guide covers the Riverglades questlines of the mid-30s.
