Titan for endgame PvE. Hunter for burst and Trials. Warlock for the 1st character.

PvE Titan

Prismatic Stoicism (Spirit of Synthoceps + Spirit of Inmost Light). Consecration slams clear spawns. Thundercrash covers bosses. Warlock Getaway Artist is the forgiving alt. Hunter Celestial Nighthawk + Still Hunt owns the damage check.

PvP Hunter

Hunter remains the default high-skill Crucible and Trials pick. Titan Striker / Prismatic is the aggressive run. Warlock Dawnblade and Prismatic stay competitive for ability-1st players.

Monument of Triumph (Update 9.7.0, 9 June 2026) closed Destiny 2’s major content run. This frozen sandbox is the one you live with (maintenance hotfixes only). Titan is the safest endgame PvE all-rounder. Hunter leads burst DPS and high-skill PvP. Warlock is the softest landing for new Lights. Below: identities, PvE / PvP / new-player verdicts, all 18 subclasses (including Prismatic), and the exotic builds that decide power.

Destiny 2 Classes & Best Class (2026): Titan, Hunter, Warlock

The 3 Classes at a Glance

Destiny 2 gives you 3 Guardians. Class locks your movement fantasy, class ability, and exotic armor pool · but subclass + exotic build decide most of your power in 2026.

Best Class for PvE in 2026

Verdict: Titan is the safest all-round endgame pick; Warlock is the most forgiving for learning Grandmaster-tier Ops and Master raids; Hunter owns single-target burst. All 3 clear every activity in the Monument of Triumph sandbox.

  • Titan headline: Prismatic Stoicism (Spirit of Synthoceps + Spirit of Inmost Light) · Consecration slams clear spawns, Knockout heals the melee loop, Thundercrash covers bosses. Alt: Solar Shieldburst + reworked Hallowfire Heart (featured on dated write-ups Titan builds updated Jun-Jul 2026).
  • Warlock headline: Prismatic Getaway Artist · consume grenade for Arc Soul, park a Bleak Watcher turret, let Devour handle health (still live post-MOT on dated write-ups / community solo GM writeups). Alt power spike: Voidwalker Skull of Dire Ahamkara + new Soul Siphon aspect (MOT rework; dated write-ups "Nova Nuke" / Soul Siphon builds Jun 29 2026).
  • Hunter headline: Celestial Nighthawk + Still Hunt for damage checks (hotfix 9.7.0.1 fixed a frozen-boss damage multiplier bug · the combo remains the burst pick. The combo is still the burst pick). Combination Blow melee loop for sustain clear. Alt: Solar Crackshot Gunslinger (dated write-ups "True Gunslinger" Jun 28 2026).

Best Class for PvP in 2026

Verdict: Hunter remains the default high-skill Crucible/Trials pick (dodge kits, Gunslinger tools, invis options). Titan Striker / Prismatic Titan is the aggressive "run at them" answer. Warlock Dawnblade and Prismatic stay fully competitive for ability-1st players.

The community's pre-MOT PvP S-tier consensus (dated 2026-06-06) stacked Striker, Dawnblade, Gunslinger, and all 3 Prismatic kits · that shape still matches community talk after 9.7.0, with ability reworks (including invis and Ward of Dawn) shifting details more than deleting classes. Hunters usually fill the largest share of sweaty queues; treat exact weekly % as fluid.

If you only play Trials on weekends, pick the class whose movement already feels good in your hands · weapon meta and peeks matter as much as the subclass badge.

Best Class for New Players

Verdict: start Warlock if you want the softest landing · rift healing and Getaway Artist Prismatic forgive bad positioning while you learn Champions and modifiers. Prefer a tougher frontline? Start Titan and lean on barricades plus Consecration loops.

Hunter is fantastic once movement clicks, but it asks more from aim and dodge timing early. Post-9.7.0 Solar Crackshot helps solo comfort, yet Warlock/Titan still on-ramp faster for most new Lights.

You cannot change class later on the same character · class is locked at creation. Make a 2nd (or 3rd) character to try another class; most accounts run one of each.

Subclasses Explained (Including Prismatic)

Each class has 6 subclass kits: Solar, Arc, Void, Stasis, Strand, and Prismatic (Light + Darkness abilities mixed). Monument of Triumph added aspects so every non-Prismatic subclass has 4 aspects · Shieldburst (Sunbreaker), Crackshot (Gunslinger), Soul Siphon (Voidwalker) · closing long-standing kit gaps (Bungie Dev Insights Abilities preview + Update 9.7.0).

Does Class Even Matter?

Short answer: less than the internet implies. In the Monument of Triumph sandbox, subclass + exotic armor + aspect/fragment loop decide whether you clear a Grandmaster or brick a damage phase. Class is the chassis; the build is the engine.

Class still matters for: (1) the fantasy and class ability you enjoy every minute, (2) which exotic armor you can equip, (3) the character slot you are investing · you cannot respec Titan into Warlock. Post-MOT community consensus is that Bungie balanced the trio for fun and role coverage; pick what you will actually play.

If you already love a class, optimize the build · start with our PvE builds and exotic weapons pages rather than rerolling on a vibes-based tier list.
