GM this week: The Sunless Cell (June 30 – July 7)
This week's Grandmaster Vanguard Alert is The Sunless Cell — the Taken King-era strike where you fight Alak-Hul through a pitch-dark Hive prison. It's a compact GM with heavy champion pressure and one of the darkest final arenas in the rotation, so bring your own light discipline. The featured reward is Null Composure, a Void rapid-fire fusion rifle, dropping as a special Tier 5, pre-masterworked version with a bonus Origin Trait for any clear at B grade or higher. The rotation flips at the Tuesday, July 7 reset. Rather bank it than grind it? A GM carry clears it tonight.
Where Grandmasters live in 2026
If you're returning after a break: standalone GM Nightfalls are gone. Since the Renegades update and 9.7.0, strike-style content lives in the Fireteam Ops hub, and the weekly featured GM is the Grandmaster Vanguard Alert — found at the top of Fireteam Ops or in the Seasonal Hub under Vanguard Alerts. It rotates weekly, runs harder than the standard Grandmaster difficulty tier, and matchmaking is disabled for the Alert node itself, so bring a fireteam. Grandmaster difficulty grades your run at S and pays out Tier 5 gear — the tier whose rolls come with enhanced perks. Warm up in regular Nightfall-tier Ops before stepping in.
This week's rewards, itemized
Complete the Grandmaster Alert at a B grade or better and the challenge pays out:
- Null Composure (Tier 5) — pre-masterworked, with an extra Origin Trait you can't roll elsewhere. Community trackers this week disagree on the featured-weapon icon, so eyeball the Alert node in-game before you burn the run.
- Enhancement Prisms ×5 and Ascendant Shards ×2 — still among the fastest legit sources of both.
- Fireteam Ops engrams scaled to your final grade, plus bonus XP.
The first weekly clear is the one that counts — repeat runs can still drop the featured weapon, at a reduced rate. Sweeping the Alert on multiple characters multiplies the payday; a Nightfall boost can run all three while you sleep.
Champion and loadout notes
Champion prep in 2026 is loadout-side, not artifact-side: anti-champion stuns are baked into weapon frames as permanent properties, and subclass verbs (radiant, jolt, suspend, slow/freeze, ignite) still stun their matching type. Before launching, open the activity preview — GM Alerts run with Contest rules, extra champions and extra shields, and join-in-progress disabled — and make sure Barrier, Overload and Unstoppable each have at least two answers across the fireteam. For The Sunless Cell specifically: revive discipline wins it; the dark boss arena punishes scattered teams, so fight from cover you can retreat through and count your stuns out loud.
Upcoming GM rotation
Bungie doesn't publish the Grandmaster Alert calendar in advance — each week's activity and featured weapon are revealed at the Tuesday 10 AM PT (17:00 UTC) reset, and this page updates right after. What we can time-box: the current week ends July 7 at 17:00 UTC; Iron Banner also ends at that reset, and Trials of Osiris returns Friday, July 10 — so next week is a full-menu week worth planning around. If a past featured weapon like A Good Shout or Duty Bound got away from you, GM-tier Ops still drop Adept weapons every week — our god roll farming targets the exact roll you're missing.
