The max Power level in Destiny 2 is 550. Monument of Triumph kept that hard cap when it went live with Update 9.7.0 on 9 June 2026.

Monument of Triumph is the current Destiny 2 update. Bungie plans to bring back the vaulted Red War, Forsaken, Curse of Osiris and Warmind campaigns, with their strikes and raids. Bungie targets February 2027 for its next major Destiny news. Power did not reset in 9.7.0. Every item kept its Power level.

New and returning Guardians start at Power 10. Their 1st drops land at 300 Power or higher. That floor came in with Renegades, and 9.7.0 kept it.

How to raise your Power level fast

The Portal decides your climb. Every Portal activity grades your run, and the grade sets the Power of the reward.

  1. Equip your 1st 300+ drops. Pull the gear you like from Collections too. Collections items now drop at 300 Power.
  2. Run the Portal for an A grade or higher. In 9.7.0 an A grade drops at the same Power on any difficulty. Pick the difficulty you clear fastest with an A.
  3. Push for higher grades. A higher grade gives a bigger Power bonus on the drop.
  4. Stop farming older content past 400. Older activities and legacy vendors then drop just below your Power. Your Power stops moving there.
  5. Infuse your favourite gear. Legendary Shards and planetary materials are gone from infusion.

The Portal hubs include:

  • Solo Ops. Activities you run alone.
  • Fireteam Ops. Strikes, Battlegrounds, Nightfalls and other Vanguard Ops activities.
  • Pinnacle Ops. Exotic missions and other endgame activities.
  • Crucible Ops. PvP playlists.

Power and gear tiers: focusing at 300, 400 and 520

Power also decides the gear tier you can focus at a vendor. Zavala focuses Vanguard Ops gear with Vanguard engrams.

Your PowerFocused weaponsFocused armor
300 to 399Tier 3Tier 3
400 to 519Tier 4Tier 4
520 and upTier 4Tier 5

Armor goes up to Tier 5 at the vendor. It has no upgrade path, so 520 Power is the line for focused Tier 5 armor.

Weapons stop at Tier 4 at the vendor. Weapon Tier Upgrading then takes a tiered weapon to Tier 5 for a cost. It adds the enhanced perks and the Tier 5 cosmetics. It cannot add extra perks to a column.

Pinnacle Ops and Arena Ops gear also needs Vanguard Ciphers. Those come from Pinnacle Ops and Arena Ops activities. The Vanguard engrams guide lists what to focus.

Returning to Destiny 2: where your Power starts

A Guardian who last played before The Edge of Fate starts at Power 10. Old weapons and armor still work. They are a good start for your 1st runs.

  1. Visit the Monument of Triumph in the Tower. It starts the Monument of Triumph quest.
  2. New to the game? Talk to Shaw Han in the Cosmodrome for the New Light quest.
  3. Play anything for the 1st drops. They land at 300 Power or higher.
  4. Trade old currencies at Rahool. Legendary Shards and planetary materials are retired. Rahool exchanges some of them for other currencies.
  5. Find a fireteam. Fireteam Finder sits in the roster screen.

Most bounties are retired too. Vendor reputation now rises from playing the vendor's activities. Destination and clan bounties stay.

The free-to-play guide lists what you can play without an expansion.

Why Power reset to 10: The Edge of Fate to Monument of Triumph

ReleaseWhat changed for Power
The Edge of FateEvery character reset to Power 10.
RenegadesNew rewards started at 300 Power.
Monument of TriumphThe cap stayed at 550 with no reset. Portal rewards gained Power, and A grades climb all the way to 550.

Bungie has announced no change to the Power cap or the Power floor after Monument of Triumph. The 550 cap and the 300 floor are the rules to plan around.
