Updated 2026-09-29 · 8 min read · by LFCarry PRO team

The Legacy System is the account-wide progression of World of Warcraft: Forever. You earn Legacy Points from Legacy Challenges on any character and spend them per character in 3 trees: Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness. At launch each character spends up to 16 points while the account can earn 65, and this guide covers the challenges, the trees, the Hardcore fence and the alt plan.

The Legacy System goes live with World of Warcraft: Forever on 4 November 2026. It is the account-wide progression layer: you complete Legacy Challenges on any character, the account banks Legacy Points, and every character spends its own share in 3 Legacy Trees.

At launch the spend is capped at 16 points per character while the account can earn up to 65. Blizzard capped it on purpose, so nobody feels forced to do every challenge and a new player is never far behind. The cap rises after launch, with new challenges, new perks, new columns and new trees to come. Blizzard has not published the schedule yet.

How Legacy Points are earned

Points come from Legacy Challenges spread across several categories. Blizzard’s examples: level a class, with milestones at levels 25, 45 and 60, and reach a profession milestone such as Artisan Engineering.

The design goal is that the challenges follow what you already do. Blizzard says it does not want to force anything out of the ordinary; the system rewards the way you already play and adds a few new goals along the way.

The points you earn are shared across all your characters. Blizzard has not published the points per challenge or the full challenge list yet, only the 65-point ceiling at launch.

The 65 challenges sit in 6 categories: Classes 27, Tradeskills 18, Player vs. Player 12, Adventure 2, Dungeons 3 and Raids 3. Each finished challenge grants 1 Legacy Point.

Legacy Points also unlock a cosmetic reward track at launch: the Replica Ironforge Air Rifle toy, the Spectral Bear Cub pet, the Spectral Bear Tabard and the Reins of the Spectral Bear mount.

The 3 trees: what the points buy

Each character spends the account’s points in its own trees, so 2 characters on 1 account can build 2 different things from the same pool. Blizzard warns that the strongest perks sit deep in the trees and that 16 points force real choices.

None of the examples is raw combat power. Rested XP, gathering yield and reagent costs are convenience layered on the Classic game, which matches Blizzard’s line that rewards come from playing. Blizzard has not published the full node list or the point cost per node yet.

Shared across rulesets, except Hardcore

Forever has no realm list. You pick a ruleset, Normal, PvP or Roleplaying, and Blizzard confirms that Collections and Legacy Points are account-wide across those 3. A challenge finished on a PvP Rogue pays for Well Rested on a Normal Priest.

DirectionAllowed
Normal, PvP and Roleplaying between each otherYes, 1 shared pool
Hardcore to the other rulesetsYes, progress flows out
Other rulesets into HardcoreNo

Hardcore is the fence. A dead Hardcore character can move to another ruleset, and what it earned stays useful there, but nothing earned elsewhere helps a Hardcore run. Hardcore itself opens after launch, and Blizzard has not given it a date. Full rules: Hardcore guide.

Legacy credit flows 1 way between Hardcore and the other rulesets. Challenges finished outside Hardcore do not appear inside Hardcore. A challenge earned in Hardcore grants that challenge on the other rulesets. PvP challenges cannot be finished in Hardcore, so Hardcore gets 12 Hardcore-only challenges at its open.

The 1st 60 does the heavy lifting

Blizzard built Legacy for players who go through the 1 to 60 journey again. The 1st character earns the class challenge at 25, 45 and 60 with no help. Every character after it spends its own 16 points from a pool the main already filled.

Well Rested is the alt pick: rested XP builds faster and the cap is higher, so a parked alt banks more bonus XP between sessions. The XP curve itself is unchanged from Classic, so a 2nd 60 is still about 150 hours of play. Legacy shortens the sessions, and the 1st character carries none of it.

Your 1st 16 points: leveler or crafter

Blizzard has named 3 perks so far, and the order below follows from them. A leveler puts the 1st points into the Adventure tree, starting with Well Rested, because rested XP is the multiplier you control every session. A crafter or gold maker leans Professions and Resourcefulness: Bountiful Harvest feeds the 600 new recipes with more ore, herbs and leather, and Reagent Economy saves gold on every buff.

Because spend is per character, the 2 builds live on the same account. The main that reaches 60 1st takes Adventure; the profession alt takes Professions and Resourcefulness. Blizzard has not published whether Legacy points can be reset, so the 1st 16 are worth planning.

The class challenge needs a 60, and the leveling order above gets the 1st character there while you play the alt you want. The profession milestones pay points too: a Pro takes 1 profession from 1 to 300 for $58, self-play or piloted, from 4 November 2026.

For a build question on the trees or a single stuck level, coaching is $29 an hour. Every order can be cancelled before the 1st session for a full refund.
