Rockstar has not said whether GTA 6 has cheat codes. Its game site, its GTA VI support article and its Newswire launch posts say nothing on cheats, and neither does the PS5 store listing. Each row above changes the day Rockstar or the game answers it.

GTA 5 had built-in cheats on PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Effects ranged from invincibility and moon gravity to a Buzzard attack helicopter spawned next to you. Most had a button combo, and on newer consoles a matching phone number as well, so you used whichever was faster.

• Story Mode only. GTA Online ignored the codes.
• Trophies off for that session. A cheat switched off trophies and achievements until you loaded a save without cheats.
• No money cheat. GTA 5 had no code for cash in Story Mode or in Online. Cash for VI is in the GTA 6 money guide.
• Wanted level both ways. Codes could raise your stars or clear them.

Red Dead Redemption 2 moved cheats into a menu. Pause, open Settings, then Cheats, and type the phrase. The menu opens with Triangle on PlayStation, Y on Xbox and Enter on PC.

Rockstar hid the phrases in the world. Some work only with a specific newspaper in your satchel, so you buy that edition in town before you type the phrase. A phrase you save to the menu stays there and toggles on and off.

In RDR2 a cheat switched off saving and trophies for that session. Save before you open the menu. The phrases did nothing in Red Dead Online.

The method changed between games. A GTA 5 combo says nothing about the GTA 6 input until the game is out.

Keep a clean save before you test codes. In both games a cheat cost you something for the rest of that session. If GTA 6 keeps manual save slots like its predecessors, use them this way:

• Clean slot. 1 save that has never seen a code. Every trophy run loads this slot.
• Test slot. A copy you make before you try any code. The sandbox lives here.

Want the Platinum and the sandbox? Play the trophies clean, or book the Platinum on your PS5 save. Try codes once the trophies are in. Story and 100% runs work the same way.

Built-in codes come from Rockstar. They ship inside the game, and the game decides what each one switches off. You need nothing else to use them.
