How to Get Onyxia Attunement in WoW Forever: the Drakefire Amulet, Alliance and Horde

Onyxia's Lair lets you in only with the Drakefire Amulet in your bags. You earn it through a long quest chain, and each faction has its own.

1. Get your character to level 60. Onyxia's Lair is a level 60 raid, and the chain runs through high-level dungeons.
2. Find your faction's quest giver. Alliance players go to Helendis Riverhorn in the Burning Steppes. Horde players go to Warlord Goretooth in Kargath, in the Badlands.
3. Bring friends for the elite quests. Several steps are elite and take a group.
4. Run the Blackrock dungeons. Alliance go into Blackrock Depths. Horde go into Blackrock Spire. Both end in Upper Blackrock Spire.
5. Take the Blood of the Black Dragon Champion. It drops from General Drakkisath, the last boss of Upper Blackrock Spire.
6. Turn in for the Drakefire Amulet. Keep it in your bags. It works there without being worn.

Blizzard's advice is to start early and leave time for several trips into high-level dungeons. Plan for days, since the raid opens on 9 December.

The Alliance chain starts in the Burning Steppes and runs through Stormwind.

1. Dragonkin Menace. Pick it up from Helendis Riverhorn in the Burning Steppes.
2. The True Masters. 6 quests share this name. They look into the Black Dragonflight's hold on the Blackrock orcs.
3. Marshal Windsor. Marshal Maxwell at Morgan's Vigil sends you into Blackrock Depths to find him.
4. Abandoned Hope. Windsor sends you back to Marshal Maxwell.
5. A Crumpled Up Note. The note drops from enemies in Blackrock Depths. Bring it to Windsor in his cell.
6. A Shred of Hope. Take Windsor's lost papers from Golem Lord Argelmach and General Angerforge in Blackrock Depths.
7. Jail Break! Help Windsor escape Blackrock Depths, then report to Marshal Maxwell.
8. Stormwind Rendezvous. Meet Squire Rowe at the Stormwind gates to call Windsor.
9. The Great Masquerade. Gather allies for this event in Stormwind.
10. The Dragon's Eye. Highlord Bolvar Fordragon sends you across Azeroth to find help.
11. Drakefire Amulet. Take the Blood of the Black Dragon Champion from General Drakkisath in Upper Blackrock Spire, then turn it in.

The Horde chain starts in the Badlands and runs through Orgrimmar, Desolace and Dustwallow Marsh.

1. Blood and Thunder. Pick it up from Warlord Goretooth in Kargath.
2. Warlord's Command. It sends you through Lower Blackrock Spire.
3. Eitrigg and Thrall. Goretooth sends you to Eitrigg in Orgrimmar, then to Thrall.
4. For the Horde! Claim the head of Warchief Rend Blackhand in Blackrock Spire for Thrall.
5. What the Wind Carries. Listen to Thrall's findings.
6. The Champion of the Horde. Find Rexxar on the roads of Desolace.
7. The Testament of Rexxar. Deliver it to Myranda the Hag in the Western Plaguelands.
8. Oculus Illusions. Collect Black Dragonspawn Eyes for Myranda.
9. Emberstrife. Use the Amulet of Draconic Subversion to reach the drake Emberstrife in Dustwallow Marsh.
10. The Test of Skulls. Emberstrife sends you on 4 quests for the skulls of Scryer, Somnus, Chronalis and Axtroz.
11. Ascension. Emberstrife gives you the Dull Drakefire Amulet. Take it back to Rexxar.
12. Blood of the Black Dragon Champion. Take it from General Drakkisath in Upper Blackrock Spire, then return to Rexxar for the Drakefire Amulet.

The Horde route has 12 steps, 1 more than the Alliance route.

Every raider needs the amulet on their own character. A guild plans the chain for all 40 raiders before its 1st Onyxia night.

Onyxia's Lair is a 40-player raid in Dustwallow Marsh. It opens on 9 December, the same day as Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit.

• 3 phases. Onyxia's fight shifts as it goes, with heavy fire attacks.
• Fire resistance. Blizzard tells raiders to build it before they enter.
• Weekly reset. All 3 raids are planned to reset each week.
• Per character. The attunement stays per character in WoW Forever.
