GTA Online crossplay: is GTA 5 cross platform?
GTA 5 has no crossplay. PlayStation, Xbox and PC players each meet only their own platform in GTA Online.
Each family also splits by edition. That gives 6 separate player pools:
PS5,
PS4,
Xbox Series X|S,
Xbox One, PC Enhanced and PC Legacy.
| Your version | Plays with | Character can move to |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 | PS5 players | Stays on PS5 |
| PS4 | PS4 players, plus PS5 consoles running the PS4 edition | PS5 or Xbox Series X|S |
| Xbox Series X|S | Xbox Series X|S players | Stays on Xbox Series X|S |
Xbox One | Xbox One players, plus Xbox Series X|S consoles running that edition | Xbox Series X|S or PS5 |
| PC Enhanced | PC Enhanced players on every PC store | Stays on PC Enhanced |
| PC Legacy | PC Legacy players on every PC store | PC Enhanced |
Can PS5 and Xbox play GTA together?
No. PlayStation and Xbox players keep separate lobbies on both console generations. Your crew needs the same console family and the same edition.
Is GTA Online cross platform on PC?
On PC, the store makes no difference.
Steam,
Epic Games Store,
Rockstar Games Launcher and Xbox app players meet in 1 pool on the same edition.
Can PS4 and PS5 play GTA Online together?
Yes, when you both run the PS4 edition. A PS5 plays the PS4 edition through backward compatibility and joins PS4 lobbies. The PS5 version meets PS5 players only.
Xbox works the same way. An Xbox Series X|S running the Xbox One edition joins players on that edition. The Xbox Series X|S version meets Xbox Series X|S players only.
Free upgrade to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
Since 18 June 2026, any PS4 copy of GTA 5 upgrades to the PS5 version for free. A digital copy for the Xbox One upgrades to the Xbox Series X|S version the same way.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions launched on 15 March 2022. Once you upgrade, bring your GTA Online character over with Migrate Profile, shown in the transfer section.
GTA 5 Enhanced vs Legacy: can they play together?
No. PC Enhanced and PC Legacy players keep separate GTA Online lobbies. Your PC crew needs the same edition.
GTA 5 Enhanced arrived on 4 March 2025 as a free upgrade for PC owners. It came to Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam and Epic Games Store. Legacy stays available next to it.
