Dual Destiny requirements and the 2-player rule

Dual Destiny is a secret Exotic mission in the Pale Heart. It belongs to The Final Shape. It launches only with exactly 2 Guardians.

RequirementWhat it means
ExpansionThe Final Shape on your account.
FireteamExactly 2 players. A solo player cannot start it. A 3-player fireteam cannot start it either.
Subclasses1 player takes the Light role on Arc, Solar or Void. The other takes the Darkness role on Stasis or Strand. Prismatic fits either role.
LoadoutYour subclass locks when the mission starts.
Voice chatEvery puzzle has 1 player calling and 1 player shooting.
TimerThe whole mission runs against a clock.

The 2-player rule decides how you run it. You need a partner who knows the callouts and stays on voice for the whole run.

Your 2nd Guardian for Dual Destiny

A Pro fills the partner spot and knows every callout. Each clear drops an Exotic class item for your class.

How to unlock Dual Destiny

The unlock is a hidden chain across the 3 Pale Heart zones. Do the steps in this order.

  1. The Landing. Clear the Overthrow up to its boss. After the boss, the game says a Secret-Keeper of the Witch Queen is near. Find the Secret-Keeper and kill it.
  2. The Blooming. Clear its Overthrow and kill the 2nd Secret-Keeper.
  3. The Impasse. Clear its Overthrow and kill the 3rd Secret-Keeper.
  4. Follow the beam. A beam of light now stands in the sky. Follow it into The Refraction.
  5. Savathûn's Envoy. At the end of the path you get the Savathûn's Envoy buff. It lasts 7 minutes.
  6. The 2 Expectors. 2 markers lead to packs of Dread. Expector Selin and Expector Yemiq appear after them. Damage each Expector until it teleports away.
  7. The 2 orbs. Each Expector drops an orb. You need the Light orb and the Darkness orb. Carry both back and dunk them on their plates before the buff ends.

The Dual Destiny node then appears in that room and on the Pale Heart map. It stays there for every later run.

Dual Destiny walkthrough, encounter by encounter

Each player gets a buff at the start: Light Aligned or Darkness Aligned. It follows your subclass and stays for the whole run. The Light Aligned player stands on the Light plate. The Darkness Aligned player stands on the Darkness plate. Both plates together open each barrier.

Encounter 1: the symbol rooms

  • Kill the enemy that glows in your alignment. It drops a mote that only you can pick up.
  • Motes reveal symbols to both players. The caller sees them above the chests. The shooter sees them above floating Pyramid spikes.
  • The caller reads the symbols from left to right. The shooter hits the same symbols in that order.
  • Room 1 shows 2 symbols. Room 2 shows 3 and swaps the roles. Room 3 swaps them again.

The jumping path

A jumping section follows the 1st encounter. Stand on both plates at its end to open the way.

Encounter 2: the lasers

  • A Pyramid structure stands in the middle of the room. Rays run from it to 9 nodes around it.
  • Each player sees 6 rays. The 2 players see rays to different nodes.
  • Kill the Tormentor. The player with the final blow gets the buff that lets you shoot the nodes.
  • Each player calls the nodes that have no ray. Together that names 6 nodes. Shoot the 3 nodes nobody called.
  • Repeat until the encounter ends.

Encounter 3: the Expectors and the clock

  • Damage the 1st Expector until it goes immune.
  • Kill the Wizard that glows in your alignment. Symbols then show above the boss. The caller reads them and the shooter hits them.
  • The 2nd Expector repeats the mechanic with the roles swapped.
  • Both Expectors then hide behind a barrier. Split to opposite sides of the room and kill your Wizard again.
  • The switches now sit around a dial like a clock face. Each player sees 4 rays from the dial. Only 1 node is common to both players.
  • Shoot the common node fast, because the rays keep rotating. Do it 3 times and the barrier drops.
  • Kill both Expectors before the timer runs out.

The final room

The last room offers a choice: peace or battle. Both paths end with the same reward. Each player leaves with an Exotic class item.

Dual Destiny rewards: the Exotic class items

The reward follows the class you play when the mission ends.

TitanStoicismMark
WarlockSolipsismBond

Every drop is a random roll. Each item carries 2 Spirit perks, 1 from each of its 2 perk columns.

More copies come from 2 places:

  • Replays. Each Dual Destiny clear drops another class item.
  • Pale Heart chests. After your 1st clear, chests in the Pale Heart can drop a class item too.

The perk pair is the long part of the chase. Our best PvE builds show the Spirit pairs the top builds run.
