The fastest way to level up in Valorant
Account level runs on Account Points, or AP. You earn AP only by playing matchmade games. 3 things pay it: time in the match, each win, and your 1st win of the day.
- Win 1 match every day. The 1st win of the day pays the biggest bonus. At levels 1 to 5 it is 5,000 AP, a full level.
- Play on many days. The bonus comes once a day. 5 short days beat 1 long session.
- Win as often as you can. Every win adds bonus AP on top of the time.
- Stay in matchmade queues.
Unrated,
Swiftplay,
Spike Rush,
Deathmatch and
Team Deathmatch all pay AP for every minute.
| Account level | 1st win of the day | Each win | Time played |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 to 5 | 5,000 AP | 250 AP | 50 AP a minute |
| 6 to 10 | 4,000 AP | 200 AP | 40 AP a minute |
| 11 to 15 | 3,000 AP | 150 AP | 30 AP a minute |
| 16 to 20 | 1,000 AP | 100 AP | 20 AP a minute |
| 21 and up | 1,000 AP | 50 AP | 10 AP a minute |
The rates fall as you level. Levels 16 to 20 are the slow part of the road to Competitive.

Level 20 and Competitive
Competitive needs account level 20. The rule dates from Episode 4 Act 1.
From a new account that is 19 levels. At 5,000 AP a level, it adds up to 95,000 AP.
Accounts that played ranked before Episode 4 keep their access below level 20.

How long each level takes
The table shows the match minutes 1 level takes on time alone, with no win bonus. It uses 5,000 AP a level and the rates above.
| Account level | Minutes for 1 level, time only | Share of a level from the 1st win |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 5 | 100 minutes | 100% |
| 6 to 10 | 125 minutes | 80% |
| 11 to 15 | About 167 minutes | 60% |
| 16 to 20 | 250 minutes | 20% |
The daily 1st win carries the early levels. At levels 1 to 5 it is a whole level by itself. From level 16 it covers only 20% of a level, so time in matches matters more.
What counts toward your account level
AP counts only toward your account level. The Battlepass and agent contracts run on XP, a separate meter.
- Counts. Minutes in any matchmade game, each win, and the 1st win of the day.
- Your player card border. It changes every 20 account levels.
- A shard transfer. Moving your account to another shard resets the account level.
