Best rune farm in Elden Ring for patch 1.17.2
Patch 1.17.2 went live on 20 October 2026. It fixes bugs and adds no content. The last balance patch, 1.17, went live on 27 August 2026.
The best rune farm in Elden Ring is at the
Palace Approach Ledge-Road Site of Grace in Mohgwyn Palace. 1 arrow sends a bird off a cliff for about 11,000 runes. Later, 1 Wave of Gold over the Albinaurics at the same grace pays about 32,000 runes.

Mohgwyn Palace bird rune farm, step by step
The bird farm needs a bow, 1 arrow per run and no fight. You can reach it early with White Mask Varré's questline.
- Finish White Mask Varré's questline to get the
Pureblood Knight's Medal. - Use the
Pureblood Knight's Medal from your inventory. It takes you to Mohgwyn Palace. - Rest at the
Palace Approach Ledge-Road Site of Grace. - Stand at the ledge by the wall on your left as you face the palace and the blood lake.
- Shoot the bird by the tree across the lake with 1 arrow. The damage does not matter.
- The bird charges at you and falls off the cliff. Its death pays about 11,000 runes.
- Rest at the grace. The bird comes back, so shoot it again.
The angle matters. From farther along the ledge, the bird stops and stays in place. Move back toward the wall on your left and shoot again.
A 2nd way in is the teleporter in the Consecrated Snowfield. It drops you on the path down to the same grace.
Late game rune farm: the Albinaurics
Albinaurics sit, pace and sleep all around the
Palace Approach Ledge-Road grace. Each one pays over 2,000 runes.
An area attack that kills them all at once turns them into a farm. The
Sacred Relic Sword's Wave of Gold is the usual pick. From the right spot, 1 Wave of Gold pays about 32,000 runes.
Rest at the grace and every Albinauric respawns. The bird respawns too, so 1 run can pay both.
Early game rune farms
Bestial Sanctum militiamen
A hidden teleporter in east Limgrave takes you to the
Bestial Sanctum. The vulgar militiamen on the slopes south of it pay about 1,000 runes each. A run of 5 pays about 5,000 runes, and the grace resets them.
Lenne's Rise rolling ball farm
Lenne's Rise sits below the bridge from the
Bestial Sanctum plateau. Ride
Torrent down the slope from its grace. A rolling ball spawns and comes at you.
Step to the right and let the ball roll off the cliff. A 2nd ball waits a short way down the path. The 2 balls pay 3,904 runes per run with no fight.
Greyoll, the 50,000 rune dragon
Greyoll is the huge dragon that lies by Fort Faroth in Dragonbarrow. Her kill pays 50,000 runes. A bleed weapon brings her large health bar down at a low level.
Trolls in Limgrave
Each Troll in Limgrave pays about 1,000 runes. They are the early payout before the teleporter to the
Bestial Sanctum.
Gold Scarab and Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot
2 items raise every rune you take from an enemy. Use both before a long farm.
| Item | Effect | Where to get it |
|---|---|---|
| +20% runes from enemies, while equipped | The Cleanrot Knight pair in the Abandoned Cave, Caelid | |
| +30% runes for 3 minutes | Patches sells it for 600 runes |
You can also craft the
Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot. Patches sells the Missionary's Cookbook [2] with the recipe.
How many runes you need per level
Each level costs more runes than the one before. Level 713 is the cap.
| From level | Runes to the next level |
|---|---|
| 50 | 15,102 |
| 100 | 61,591 |
| 125 | 100,998 |
| 150 | 153,680 |
| 200 | 306,369 |
| 300 | 853,547 |
Level 1 to 150 takes 7,112,459 runes in total. Level 713 takes 1,692,566,842 runes.
At about 11,000 runes per bird, level 150 to 151 takes 14 birds.
