HSR Tier List — Version 4.4 (July 2026)
This list is built for Version 4.4 — In Ravages Does the Whistle Sound, live since 15 July 2026 and running to 26 August 2026 (HoYoverse update details). Two authorities carry the rankings below: Prydwen (T0→T3 scale, last updated 24 July 2026) and Game8 (SS→C scale, explicitly “as of Version 4.4”, same date). Prydwen averages Memory of Chaos, Pure Fiction and Apocalyptic Shadow over the last three phases; Game8 rates overall.
Where they disagree we say so instead of flattening it. A tier list that hides a one-tier split between the two biggest boards is telling you less than it knows. Any character marked split below is one where Prydwen and Game8 do not line up, and the gap is usually about game mode rather than raw power.
One honest limit: neither board publishes character ranks for Simulated Universe, Swarm Disaster or Forgotten Hall. Those modes are covered further down in prose, and no invented tiers are offered for them.
Best DPS Characters Ranked
Carries first, because this is the slot most people are actually rolling for. Tier letters map to the two boards as: S = Prydwen T0 / Game8 SS, A = T0.5 / S+, B = T1 – T1.5 / S+, C = T1.5 – T2 / S with a stated weakness.
| Tier | Character | Path / Element | Role | Why it sits there |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | Himeko • Nova | Erudition / Fire | DPS | The one unit both boards put at the very top: Prydwen T0 in all three endgame modes, Game8 SS. Fire Erudition with mech follow-ups; wants a Trailblaze Companion alongside. |
| S | Castorice | Remembrance / Quantum | DPS | Prydwen T0 across MoC, PF and AS; Game8 SS. Heavy AoE, skill-point neutral, and Game8 notes the F2P-friendly team options — rare for an apex pick. |
| S | Evanescia | Elation / Physical | DPS | Prydwen T0 in MoC, Game8 SS. Hypercarry shell rather than a dual-Elation pairing; supported well by the free Elation Trailblazer. |
| S | Silver Wolf • Lv. 999 | Elation / Imaginary | DPS | Prydwen T0, Game8 SS. Speed and crit focused; Game8 puts her peak alongside Sparxie and Yao Guang. |
| S | Archer | Fate collab / Quantum | DPS | Prydwen T0, Game8 SS on enormous skill and ultimate multipliers. Two caveats both boards state: needs Sparkle, and struggles in AoE — so not your Pure Fiction answer. |
| S | Ashveil | Lightning | DPS / Support DPS | Prydwen T0 as DPS and T0.5 as support DPS; Game8 SS. Excellent into one to three targets and buffs follow-up teams, but falls off at five targets. |
| A | Sparxie | Elation / Fire | DPS / Support DPS | Split: Prydwen T0, Game8 S+. Big AoE plus Punchlines for Elation teams; wants Sparkle or Elation support to come online. |
| A | Firefly | Destruction / Fire | DPS | Split: Prydwen T0, Game8 S+. Still the reference Break carry with Fire weakness implant, but locked to a Break shell (Ruan Mei, Fugue, Dahlia or Harmony Trailblazer). |
| A | March 7th • Evernight | Remembrance / Ice | Support DPS | Prydwen T0 as support DPS, T0.5 as DPS; Game8 SS. Memosprite damage plus buffs, and the natural partner to Castorice. |
| A | Rin Tohsaka | Erudition / Quantum | Support DPS | New in 4.4. Prydwen T0 support DPS, Game8 SS. AoE damage and the Archer enabler; F2P-friendly light cone options. |
| A | Acheron | Nihility / Lightning | DPS | Prydwen T0.5, Game8 S+. Still a strong single-target and AoE ultimate, but Game8 treats her signature light cone as effectively mandatory — not a cheap unit to finish. |
| A | Phainon | Physical | DPS | Prydwen T0.5, Game8 S+. Enormous damage inside his Enhanced state with a self-dispel; merely decent outside it. |
| A | Saber | Wind | DPS | Prydwen T0.5, Game8 S+. The easiest crit build of the collab units and fine in both single-target and AoE, but skill-point hungry and wants an advance support. |
| A | Anaxa | Erudition / Wind | DPS | Prydwen T0.5, Game8 S+. Weakness implant and crowd control; his AoE is weaker than the top Erudition units. Returns on a 4.4 Phase 2 banner. |
| A | Hysilens | Physical | DoT DPS | Prydwen T0.5 among damage-over-time carries, Game8 S+. Builds a DoT zone with vulnerability, but leans on Kafka to detonate. |
| A | Gilgamesh | Destruction / Lightning | Support DPS | New in 4.4 and Prydwen T0.5; Game8 S+. Sub-DPS and Saber support with a high-energy ultimate; wants eidolons to headline himself. |
| B | Black Swan | Nihility / Wind | Support DPS | Prydwen T0.5, Game8 S+. Damage over time with defence shred, in the Kafka family of teams. |
| B | Kafka | Nihility / Lightning | Support DPS | Prydwen T0.5, Game8 S+. The DoT detonator. Game8 warns she needs the premium DoT shell and buffs to hold up in endgame. |
| B | Feixiao | Wind / Hunt | Single-target DPS | Prydwen T1, Game8 S. Clean single-target follow-up carry; nothing to offer Pure Fiction. |
| B | Mydei | Imaginary | DPS | Split: Prydwen T1, Game8 S+. |
| B | The Herta | Ice / Erudition | AoE DPS | Split: Prydwen T1.5, Game8 S+ — and the gap is a mode gap. She is an AoE specialist, so she reads far better on a Pure Fiction board than on an averaged one. |
| B | Aglaea | Lightning / Remembrance | DPS | Prydwen T1.5, Game8 S+. |
| C | Boothill | Physical | Single-target Break | Prydwen T1.5, Game8 S. Strong single-target Break, weak into multiple targets. |
| C | Seele | Quantum / Hunt | Single-target DPS | Prydwen T1.5, Game8 S+. Still deletes a single target; the AoE problem never went away. |
| C | Jade | Quantum / Erudition | Support DPS | Prydwen T2, Game8 S — and Game8 is blunt that she was made for Pure Fiction. Judge her there, not on an average. |
| C | Rappa | Imaginary | Break DPS | Prydwen T2, Game8 S. |
Two units are worth reading twice. Archer and Ashveil are both top-tier on an averaged board and both explicitly bad at five targets, which is the entire premise of Pure Fiction. If your blocker is a Pure Fiction stage, neither is the fix.
Best Amplifiers and Sustains
Supports decide clears more often than carries do, and this is where the two boards disagree most. Sunday and Tribbie sit a full tier apart between Game8 (SS) and Prydwen (T0.5). Neither board is wrong: Sunday feeds one carry, Tribbie favours two, and an averaged board punishes specialisation.
| Tier | Character | Path / Element | Role | Why it sits there |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | Sparkle | Harmony / Quantum | Amplifier | Prydwen T0, Game8 SS. Skill-point battery, action advance and crit damage in one kit; sensitive to speed tuning. Named as a requirement by Archer. |
| S | Mortenax Blade | Fire | Amplifier | Prydwen T0, Game8 SS. A generalist damage amplifier that fits both ultimate and follow-up teams and can chip in sustain or aggro. |
| S | Yao Guang | Elation / Physical | Amplifier | Prydwen T0, Game8 SS. Skill-point positive Elation amp with resistance penetration — the answer when the team is starved for points. |
| S | Trailblazer • Elation | Elation / Lightning | Amplifier | Prydwen T0, Game8 S+. Free, and it triggers your allies' Elation skills — the strongest thing on this page that costs nothing. |
| A | Cyrene | Ice | Amplifier | Split: Prydwen T0, Game8 S+. True damage and Chrysos Heir enhancement; Game8 notes the buffs mostly shine on Heir teams. |
| A | The Dahlia | Fire | Amplifier | Prydwen T0, Game8 S+. Super Break enabler with Break efficiency — excellent, and locked to Break teams. |
| A | Trailblazer • Remembrance | Remembrance / Ice | Amplifier | Prydwen T0 at E6, Game8 S+. Crit damage, advance and true damage for Remembrance and Nova shells. Also free. |
| A | Sunday | Harmony / Imaginary | Amplifier | Split, a full tier: Game8 SS, Prydwen T0.5. Single-target advance, energy and crit — so he reads best when you have one carry to feed rather than two. |
| A | Tribbie | Harmony / Quantum | Amplifier | Split, a full tier: Game8 SS, Prydwen T0.5. Team-wide resistance penetration and follow-up support; favours AoE and dual-carry shells. |
| A | Cipher | Nihility / Quantum | Amplifier | Prydwen T0.5, Game8 S+. Fast follow-ups plus vulnerability. |
| A | Cerydra | Harmony / Wind | Amplifier | Prydwen T0.5, Game8 S+. Doubles a single ally's skill and buffs skill damage. On a 4.4 Phase 2 banner. |
| A | Tingyun • Fugue | Nihility / Fire | Amplifier | Prydwen T0.5, Game8 S+. Break support with weakness ignore and defence shred. |
| B | Ruan Mei | Break support | Amplifier | Split: Prydwen T1, Game8 S+. Still the default Break glue. |
| B | Robin | Physical / Harmony | Amplifier | Split: Prydwen T1.5, Game8 S+. Reruns on the 4.5 Phase 1 banner from late August. |
| B | Welt | Imaginary | Amplifier | Prydwen T1, Game8 S+. Delay and amplification; the standard-banner unit that keeps showing up in budget Nova teams. |
| B | Silver Wolf | Quantum / Nihility | Amplifier | Prydwen T1, Game8 S. The base version — weakness implant utility, distinct from Lv. 999 above. |
| B | Trailblazer • Harmony | Harmony / Imaginary | Amplifier | Prydwen T0.5 at E6, Game8 S. Free Break and Super Break amplification. |
Sustains
You need exactly one, and the best one in the game is free.
| Tier | Character | Path / Element | Role | Why it sits there |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | Dan Heng • Permansor Terrae | Preservation / Physical | Sustain | Prydwen T0, Game8 SS — and every player received a free copy, so this is the rare apex unit you already own. Stacking shields, Souldragon, and an attack buff to the Bondmate. |
| S | Hyacine | Abundance / Wind | Sustain | Prydwen T0, Game8 SS. Heavy healing plus max HP scaling and her own damage; leans on her skill. |
| S | Huohuo | Abundance / Wind | Sustain | Prydwen T0, Game8 SS. Heal, cleanse, and party energy and attack — the safest generalist healer on the roster. |
| A | Lingsha | Abundance / Fire | Sustain | Prydwen T0.5, Game8 S+. Healing with Break damage amplification, so she doubles as a Break-team piece. |
| A | Aventurine | Imaginary | Sustain | Split: Prydwen T1, Game8 S+. Shield-based. Returns on a 4.4 Phase 2 banner. |
| B | Gallagher | Fire | Sustain (4★) | Prydwen T1, Game8 S+ at E6 — the four-star that carries F2P accounts. Skill-point friendly and a Break enabler. |
| B | Fu Xuan | Quantum | Sustain | Prydwen T1, Game8 S. Damage mitigation rather than raw healing. |
Forgotten Hall boost →Forgotten Hall and Memory of Chaos stages cleared by PROs on their own accounts or yours — pick the stages you need, no gacha luck required.
What Changes by Mode: MoC, Pure Fiction, Apocalyptic Shadow
A single ranking cannot describe three endgame modes with opposite requirements, which is why the splits above exist. Prydwen publishes per-mode boards; the practical read:
| Mode | What it rewards | Bring | Leave home |
|---|---|---|---|
| Memory of Chaos | Blast and single-target | Nova, Castorice, Archer, Ashveil, Firefly, Silver Wolf Lv. 999, Evanescia, Phainon, Saber, Acheron | Nothing categorically — this is the mode the averaged list describes best |
| Pure Fiction | Wide AoE; single-target kits are close to dead weight | Nova, Castorice, Evanescia, Sparxie, The Herta, Jade, Tribbie dual-carry shells | Archer, Ashveil at five targets, Feixiao, Boothill, Seele |
| Apocalyptic Shadow | Single-target and Break | Firefly with Dahlia / Fugue / Ruan Mei / Lingsha or Gallagher; Boothill; Nova; Ashveil | Pure AoE specialists with no single-target tools |
Current rotation windows from the official 4.4 notes: Apocalyptic Shadow 20 July – 31 August, Pure Fiction 3 August – 14 September, Memory of Chaos 17 August – 28 September.
Simulated Universe, Swarm Disaster and Forgotten Hall
Neither Prydwen nor Game8 publishes a character ranking for these, so this guide does not invent one. What is defensible: the same premium cores clear them, generalist and Break amplifiers (Ruan Mei, Fugue, Gallagher, Nova, Elation shells) are the common picks, and Prydwen states outright that lower Simulated Universe difficulties do not need high-tier units if the team is built coherently. Treat Forgotten Hall as Memory-of-Chaos-shaped — blast and single-target — until a dated source says otherwise. If you see a “Swarm Disaster tier list” elsewhere with confident letter grades, ask which board it came from.
Best Teams in Version 4.4
Traced comps only, from Prydwen character pages, Game8 build pages and Sportskeeda's 4.4 team round-up. No theorycrafted filler.
| Team | Best for |
|---|---|
| Nova + Mortenax Blade + Welt + Huohuo | General endgame and multi-target Memory of Chaos |
| Nova + Mortenax Blade + Remembrance Trailblazer + Dan Heng PT | The sustain-heavy Nova shell |
| Nova + Sunday + Sparkle + Dan Heng PT or Huohuo | Single-target burst with advance spam |
| Castorice + Evernight + Cyrene + Hyacine | The Remembrance and Chrysos Heir shell |
| Evanescia + Yao Guang + Huohuo + Elation Trailblazer | Elation AoE, the Pure Fiction answer |
| Firefly + The Dahlia + Fugue + Lingsha | Break, leaning Apocalyptic Shadow |
| Nova + Welt + Huohuo + Remembrance Trailblazer | The budget Nova clear — Game8's own F2P line |
| Archer + Rin Tohsaka + Sparkle + any sustain | Collab single-target. Weak in Pure Fiction — do not force it there |
Simulated Universe farm →Simulated Universe farming by the run, or a full Swarm Disaster clear — the weekly points and Herta store currency without the hours.
Best Free and Low-Spender Picks
The strongest thing about the current patch for a low spender is that several apex-tier units cost nothing.
| Pick | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Free Fate five-star — Gilgamesh or Archer | Claimable from 24 July 2026 through the end of Version 4.6. Pick Archer for single-target, Gilgamesh to support Saber. |
| Dan Heng • Permansor Terrae | A T0 / SS sustain that every account received a free copy of. If you own nothing else on this page, you own the best healer slot in the game. |
| Trailblazer — Elation, Remembrance, Harmony | Free path swaps. Elation is a T0 amplifier on Prydwen, Remembrance anchors the budget Nova team, Harmony covers Break. |
| Gallagher (4★) | Prydwen T1 / Game8 S+ at E6. The four-star sustain that keeps F2P accounts clearing. |
| Welt | Standard banner, and a real piece in the budget Nova shell rather than a consolation prize. |
| Herta, Tingyun, Pela, Moze (4★) | Not top tier, but each owns a niche: Herta in Pure Fiction, Tingyun for energy, Pela for defence shred. |
| Asta and Natasha | Game8's explicit beginner Nova team — usable while you build toward the shells above. |
Do not treat these as cheap to finish: Game8 calls Acheron's signature light cone effectively mandatory, Sparxie is markedly better with hers, and Nova has limited light cone options. A free character is not the same as a completed one.
What Changed in Version 4.4
New in 4.4: Himeko • Nova (Fire Erudition), Rin Tohsaka (Quantum Erudition) and Gilgamesh (Lightning Destruction). The Fate collab moved into its second phase on 24 July, with the free five-star choice open until the end of 4.6. Phase 2 of 4.4 opens on 5 August with Cerydra, Anaxa and Aventurine; Version 4.5 is scheduled from roughly 25 August with Robin and then Aventurine.
What that did to the meta: both boards updated on 24 July and both moved Nova straight to the top. The shift over recent versions has come from new kits and from the Elation, Remembrance and Break shells maturing — not from published balance numbers. No official buff-and-nerf table was available for 4.3 to 4.4, so this guide makes no numeric balance claims.
How to spot a stale list elsewhere: if Jingliu, Blade, Ratio or the original Himeko are still being sold to you as meta carries, you are reading a 2.x or 3.x page. Prydwen has all of them at T3 or below for current endgame.
Sources and Methodology
Rankings here are not our opinion. They are the two boards the community actually uses, read on the dates below, with disagreements preserved rather than averaged away.
- Prydwen Institute — Honkai: Star Rail tier list, last updated 24 July 2026. Per-mode boards for Memory of Chaos, Pure Fiction and Apocalyptic Shadow; ratings average the last three phases.
- Game8 — tier list stated “as of Version 4.4”, last updated 24 July 2026; Nova build and team page updated 29 July 2026.
- HoYoverse official — Version 4.4 update details (15 July 2026): version window, new characters, and the endgame rotation dates quoted above.
- Sportskeeda (15 July 2026) — 4.4 team compositions.
- Pocket Tactics and Notebookcheck — independent confirmation of the 15 July go-live and the collab schedule.
Methodology and limits. Where Prydwen and Game8 differ by a full tier the entry is marked split and both grades are shown. No character ranks are published for Simulated Universe, Swarm Disaster or Forgotten Hall because neither board publishes them. Paths are given only where confirmed on a character page; a few units are listed by element alone for that reason. This page describes Version 4.4 and will be revisited when 4.5 begins in late August 2026.
